“Our Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2014

This was our first stay at a Bed and Breakfast. The room was very clean and nicely appointed. The bathroom was much nicer than ours at home. The breakfast served was just perfect. We had the downstairs bedroom. It could not have been more to our liking. Should we return to Columbus we would like to return to German Village Guest House. We had some concerns when we learned that we were going to have to park on the street. Worked out perfectly. The furthest we had to park from the B & B was one house away.

Beautiful room. Very well-appointed. Great selection for breakfast. Dog-friendly. Convenient to so many great restaurants and shops. Would absolutely recommend German Village Guest House to anyone visiting the Columbus area.

Room Tip: We had our dog with us, so we chose the Suites. Would choose the same room again even if we didn'...

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at German Village Guest House on a cold weekend while visiting our kids that live in Columbus, Ohio. The suite we found upon arrival exceeded our expectations on just about every level. The thoughtful snacks, fresh fruit, a 6-pack of craft beer and all of it free for the taking just about blew us away....who does that! More hotels should cause it really impressed us. Huge comfy bed, perfect WiFi, and a great location makes this quaint little place our new home in Columbus...why stay anywhere else?

Room Tip: We loved the first floor suite in the Whittier building.

This place is so unassuming that you'll almost miss it while driving down the charming cobblestone streets of German Village, but once you step foot in the GVGH you'll immediately feel the allure of the property. It is incredibly well maintained and intimately private. The rooms are immaculate and the continental breakfast and subtle ammenities (freshly brewed iced-tea, selection of teas and coffees, snacks & fresh cookies daily) were all well appreciated. It was a bit cold for the snow, but my wife and I observed the beauty of the courtyard from the warmth of the downstairs living area while listening to a selection of nice music provided by the innkeeper. This was our first visit to Columbus and this B&B made our stay incredibly special.

Room Tip: We checked them all out and they are all very nice, but 3 and 4 are the best.

I cannot say enough good things about my stay at German Village Guest House!

My fiance and I arrived on Saturday, February 22nd and stayed until Monday, February 24th. Check-in was at 4pm, and we arrived right on the dot. After using the secure 4-digit code to unlock the front door, we entered the house and were greeted by a very modern, cozy, clean living room. We stayed in Room 1, which is on the first floor and right off the kitchen.

Waiting in the kitchen for us was a lovely pitcher of fresh iced tea and a tray of cookies. The kitchen is very well-stocked, including fresh homemade yogurt, cereal, loose teas, K-cups for the Keurig, granola bars, peanuts, oatmeal, crackers, and popsicles to name a lot. The kitchen feels very comfortable and is super spacious. Extremely clean, modern, and nice.

While we only stayed in Room 1, we had the chance to look at Rooms 2 & 3 after the other two couples left on Sunday, and I can honestly say that all three rooms are worth the price. Each is well put together, extremely clean, modern, comfortable, and the attention to detail is obvious. Money was definitely spent to create 3 amazing rooms and an overall amazing experience.

Our room was fabulous, and a chilled bottle of San Pelligrino waited for us on a tray with two glasses. I had planned ahead for two cream puffs from Schmidt's (a local German restaurant) to be waiting for us. A lovely, handwritten note wished my fiance a Happy Birthday, and directed us to the fridge to find our desserts.

To address any concerns...no, the house is not noisy. I barely heard the other houseguests when they were there, and the street traffic was barely noticeable. The area is safe, well-populated, and peaceful.

If you go up during nice weather, definitely make sure to use the fire place on the patio in the backyard. Yes, even in the German Village, this B&B has a spacious backyard to enjoy. The owners supply all the necessities for smores, by the way.

Also, the fireplace inside in the living room is available for use; very cozy .

Our breakfast the first morning was hardboiled brown eggs, bread with butter and jellies, sliced fresh honeydew, grapes, mixed berries, and a delicious crumb cake. The second morning was the eggs and bread again, pineapple, berries, and a baked nut bread. Also, don't forget the fresh yogurt available.

Should you wish to stay in for meals, you can use the kitchen to cook, pick up a burger to go at The Thurman Cafe, or get food delivered from Plank's Cafe.

Parking? Not an issue. There is street parking all down the block, and both nights we were parked right infront of the house.

Safety? A keycode unlocks the front door. All doors leading to the outdoors have a deadbolt. The 3 guest rooms have two deadbolts each, and you have your own key (not keycard) to your room. We never felt unsafe during our stay.

All in all, I felt our experience was well worth the money. The cozyness of being in a home, mixed with the amazing amentities, made our trip wonderful. I would absolutely stay here again, it was a special treat and will make me think twice about staying at hotels again.

Our stay at the Guest House was wonderful. It was a very snowy weekend, so German Village looked like a winter wonderland. The accommodations were lovely and clean. We enjoyed coming down to a welcoming continental breakfast, eating in the dining room as we browsed the newspaper and planned our days. The location was terrific for visiting the North Market, the Art Museum, the Franklin Conservatory, the Bookloft, and the Shadowbox Theatre. The rooms were comfortable, the Hershey kisses a special treat, and the fresh flowers in the midst of winter a true luxury. We will most certainly become repeat visitors!

Green Features: Loved that the German Village Guest House asks if you need fresh sheets and towels, rather than wasting the water and energy for the "fresh every day" normal hotel practice.

My dog and I arrived in Columbus and our housing arrangements fell through. In a frenzy, I called the German Guest Village. From the moment they picked up the phone to the moment I checked out I was treated like royalty. They made a very stressful situation turn into a rich, delightful experience almost instantaneously. One of the best bed and breakfasts I have ever stayed at. Me and my dog Brewer are eternally grateful.

Room Tip: Try the yogurt.
