Our sausage has become so famous that the Bahama Mama has been voted the official food of Columbus and the building is registered as a historic landmark. Come take a trip around our Autobahn Buffet or, if you want something other than sausage, try one of our traditional German dinners. Of course, for dessert, you can have one of our half-pound jumbo cream puffs. Stop in today and celebrate with us!

“Buffet was great!”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

We walked thru German Town in Columbus and found Schmidt's restaurant. It is in the the old livery which is filled with history. The waitress said the buffet was $13.95 with a choice of 5 meats plus meatloaf and bunch of sides. The menu for single items was about the same price. So we opted for the buffet. the food was wonderful! Knuckwurst, bahama mama, etc, green beans and spaetzles, red cabbage, german potato salad, sauerkraut etc. If you like German food this a place you must visit. After dinner stroll thru German town!

“Menu vs. Buffet”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

With over 400 reviews, what else can possibly be said that hasn’t already been stated? Well, perhaps I did not read the menu carefully, but there is a buffet in an adjacent room from where we were sitting. I did not know it was there and the server failed to mention it as well. Hence, I did not partake in the buffet and ordered the famous Bahama Mama “The Original” Platter for $10.75 which was more than an ample quantity of food. The Platter included one large sausage, sauerkraut, potato salad, a bun, and apple sauce. Simply good German food. I did not need to gorge myself on the sumptuous buffet. So, unless you want more variety and are totally famished, get the buffet and “pig out” (no sausage pun intended).

“Americanized...but still deliciously German!”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

After having lived in Germany for three years, I am always drawn to German places back here in the States. Schmidts is a must-eat in Columbus for locals...visitors, I would still highly recommend it, but if you aren't that into German food there are other cool places to see if you are trying to whittle down your options. Cobblestone streets lead up to the authentic looking sausage house, inside is cramped and loud, as you would expect a German restaurant to be. This is not the place for a quiet couples night, at any time of the day. Waits can range from 15 minutes up to hours. On weekend evenings, plan on putting your name in and then taking a leisurely stroll through German village (the surrounding streets), the buildings and gardens at each house are marvelous. I have not been to Schmidts at any time of day without having to wait. But god it's worth it! On weekend nights they have an Oompah band, that's always fun! Try the wiener schnitzel with spaetzl. The buffet is always a winner (which includes their famous 'Bahama Mama' sausages), but it does not come with schnitzel. If you are looking for a date, I would recommend putting your name in, walking to the 'FudgeHause' right next door while you wait, eat dinner, and then take your date on a walk around German village. It will be serene, and lit well enough to feel like you are in a small German town. ENJOY!

“"Ahh, feels like I'm back in Munich!"”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

From my first liter of the "Polaner, Hefewiessbier" to the weiner schnitzel, "it was fabulous"!
Add a little live music ( they did!), and it will take you back to Baveria if you've been, or will stoke your desire to go if you haven't! Delicious delicious delicious! And don't forget to start off with warm pretzels und mustard!

“Bahama Mama's are a must!”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

The brats at Schmidt's are excellent, but the Bahama Mama just has that special zip to it that makes it special. The restaurant is fun and casual and the buffet is a great deal - $9.50 for three kinds of brats, a good salad bar, macaroni and cheese, red cabbage, sauerkraut, corned beef and cabbage, sausage stew, potato salad, green beans - you name it, you can have it. And, you get your cream puffs for $3.75 (down from the regular price of $5+ - but I wouldn't fuss about paying $6 for those cream puffs - they are HUGE and AWESOME). Even if you aren't into brats, they have a good variety on the regular menu - so everyone will find something they want. Nice wait staff, good service, usually crowded, but always a hearty, excellent meal. A great Columbus institution and one we never miss when we visit!
