We had a very enjoyable dinner with wine pairings in a group of seven. The atmosphere was very low-key and comfortable. Dinner conversation was very easy even in a largish group. The dishes were creative and tasty. The wines were unusual, but quite interesting. The waiter was attentive and informative. The outdoor seating looked terrific.

We were not impressed with Alana's starting with the limited and odd selection of wines by the glass (How about offering a simple sauvignon blanc or chardonnay?). Menu offerings were limited and generally not appealing to someone who wants to eat reasonably healthy. The piece of salmon was very good, but at $32 seemed overpriced. Pasta offering at $22 was dry and not very tasty at all, and at $22 also seemed pricey. And is it really necessary to charge $3 for a little plate of very average tasting bread?

Alana's is quite the eclectic little gem just north of campus on high street. A smaller place that is very intimate with interesting decor (local artists paintings the night we were there - cool pieces and reasonably priced) and a great sommelier (Steve!) who recommended both really good bottle of wine for the four of us.

We were greeted warmly and had a brief conversation with Steve prior to sitting down for dinner. I have to say that I was a little surprised that a restaurant with such a reputation was so empty on a Friday night (only about 50% full). We were seated promptly and were greeted with deviled quail eggs. After a review of the menu and some questions answered by the waiter, we had a reasonable meal - I had the beet salad, seafood brouillard (scallops, and a smattering of lobster and crab), and finished it off with the dessert "surprise" which ended up being three very different ice creams, but not too exotic (a slightly different flavored vanilla, a dark chocolate black cherry which was a little too dark on the chocolate, and a third that was interesting, but not memorable).

Alana's big thing are the "surprises" on the menu. They do intend to surprise and even go through the effort to make sure that the place setting doesn't give it away.

The food was good, the atmosphere intimate, but over all, I believe it was over priced for what it was. Without alcohol, we spent almost $70 per person and the food wasn't anything that was especially great. The one bright spot is that good wine selection is served at near retail price with good wine advice.

We went here last Friday. It was busy, but the service was polished. I had duck pasta tht rocked my world, and the huband had he urprise, which turned out to be chicken, which he also said was awesome. We split a beet salad as an appetizer. We again ot the surprise as dessert. It was lemon ricotta creme brule. Yum!

We've been to a lot of Colmbus' better restauramts, but I think this one has the best food and service overall. I like that the decor is non traditional. The only downside is the tough parking, but we'll definitely be bck despite that. It was awesome.

The food is top notch. Alana does her best to use locally sourced fresh and seasonal ingredients. The wine selection is phenomenal.
