“Nice hotel in a good location.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2012

This was a nice, clean hotel in a good location. The only negative was parking as it was valet only for $23 a night. We opted for a parking lot down the street for $8. I'm happy with Hampton hotels and this one didnt disappoint.

I had to take a quick trip to Columbus for a meeting downtown, and the Hampton Inn and Suites was the best deal for a 3 star plus hotel in the area, so I booked it. I checked in quickly, with no issues, the room was quite nice. According to the notice in the elevator the hotel was in the process of renovating all the rooms, my room was completed already, and exceptionally nice. I saw nor heard any work while I was there, so it was pretty stealth renovation work, to be completed by July 2012, per the note. I would match it up with any of the major hotels in the area, and not find it lacking at all. Great amenities, great location, great hotel.

Room Tip: I would suggest higher floor away from the street

My family and I stayed here for a cheerleading competition that was held at the Columbus Convention Center and our stay was wonderful. The location was perfect because the Convention Center was right across the street from the hotel. The staff was over and above friendly, courteous and helpful. The minute we pulled up in front of the hotel the staff was top notch. Our rooms were VERY clean, the 24 hour complimentary coffee and tea was great and the breakfast was really good. My family and were very impressed. Thank you for a wonderful stay and exceptional hospitality.

We stayed at the Hampton over a weekend for a basketball tournament at Nationwide Arena and were very pleased with the room, the service and especially the location.

As others have noted, the hotel is located directly across the street from the convention center, and a five minute walk from the arena. Best of all, it's located right on High Street, which is lined with miles of local eateries, pubs and eclectic shops. No Chili's or Applebee's in sight. The hotel is also right next door to the North Market, which is filled with local foods and products of all types. A great stop for a strolling lunch, coffee or dessert.

The hotel itself meets all of the usual Hampton standards. The service especially stood out. Between the tournament and St. Patrick's Day, this was surely a very busy weekend for the staff, but each of them was cheery and helpful. Doorman Clifford, who I've seen mentioned in other reviews, must be the most pleasant hotel staffer we've ever encountered. There's no way you can encounter him and not walk away smiling.

We will most definitely return to the Hampton when visiting Columbus again - great location, great service and the usual affordable Hampton rates.

I travel 75% of the time and usually stay at another chain. I was very impressed with this hotel. The location, service, breakfast and cleanliness was very impressive. But what made my day was Clifford the door man, there is no way you can leave this hotel and walk by Clifford without smiling. I had been on the road 4 weeks in a row and must tell you that this was my best stay of the trip thanks to Clifford.

My favorite hotel in Columbus. Prime location next to great restaurants in the Short North, modern rooms, welcoming lobby, and well-equipped, clean fitness center. Excellent hot, free breakfast in the morning. Can't beat it!

I had a great stay here in early January. The hotel is excellently maintained, quiet (no noises from inside or outside), well-heated. Room was spotless. The comforter atop the bed was covered in freshly washed white cotton instead of the usual industrial-strength fabrics that other hotels use -- really made it feel and smell clean like home. Bathroom was pretty huge for a mid-range hotel -- the granite sink counter was about eight feet long. Staff was helpful and courteous. Fitness room was very good for a hotel in this price range - had about six cardio machines as well as weights, all in new condition. The comp breakfast was kind of basic but fine (and free).

This hotel is excellent in its own right, but what really sets it apart is probably the best location in Columbus. This is the only hotel on North High Street in the Short North neighborhood, meaning that you exit the hotel, turn left, and you're at the base of about a mile or two of great independent restaurants and bars and shops, patronized by locals (not just visitors). Perfect for a stroll or bar-hop after a busy day -- and unlike in the downtown area around the Capitol (where most other big hotels are), in the Short North they don't roll up the sidewalks after dark. But you don't sacrifice anything in terms of convenience to downtown -- at the Hampton Inn, you're still directly across the street from the Convention Center, and just four blocks or so from Nationwide Arena, and from downtown. Having spent some time in Columbus, I'd say this location seems so far superior to all the other hotels in the city -- balancing convenient access to work downtown and to leisure in the Short North -- that I can't imagine why one would stay anywhere else.
