“Wonderful Hotel with great service.”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

Pros: very nice hotel with clean updated rooms. Hotel staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Would 100% stay here again.
Cons: not a ton of restaurants within walking distance. That's ok though as their restaurant on site is quite good and it has a very good bar. No self parking options. $25 for valet parking is a bit heavy for Columbus, OH.

Just stayed here last Saturday March 22, 2014. The lobby and restaurant was nice enough and the staff was great. But the rooms.....wow. Bubbling paint in the shower stall (no tub), wallpaper peeling back, no lighting in the hallway of the room, and the bathroom was so tiny that one person would have a tough time moving around but for 2 it was impossible. The bathroom door was an old folding type with a piano hinge and the phones were probably the first generation push button ones. I have stayed in nicer hotels costing $79 per night much less the prices charged here. I am a Marriott rewards customer and have stayed mostly in Marriott properties for 20 years +. There is no way this hotel deserves the Marriott brand.

I have stayed here before for conferences and gave been very pleased. However this year I was really disappointed. The front desk staff were not very attentive (and there was no line when I checked in or out so being busy is no reason). Before I checked out I went to the desk to ask a question and the desk clerk asked, "How was your stay?" I said "eh, okay" and she said "oh" and went back to what she was doing. When I went back the desk to check out 10 minutes later the same clerk asked, "How was your stay?" apparently not realizing she had just asked me. I said "eh, okay" and she said "oh, do you need a new print out of your bill?"

The room was shabby (touched up paint that did not match), old windows, and I had to hunt around for the hotel guide booklet. There was only 1 trash can in the sleeping room and no trash cans in our meeting rooms. I said one of the staff "there are no trash cans in the meeting rooms. Shouldn't there be some?" and he said "not usually."

The best staff there were the guys at valet parking and the food service people. They helped make the stay a little better.

We have stayed here on business several times because of the convenience.
When we first came here about 10 years ago this hotel was going through some renovations, with them complete it is better than it was. Depends where ones room is it can be noisy, with a loud air conditioning system and a very small bathroom that does not have rails or hooks to hang up clothes and towels.
In one review single glazed windows was mentioned. This is true especially when we come here it is in early March and it often snows. With freezing weather and street noise does not make this hotel as comfortable as it could be.
The breakfasts used to be plentiful now there is a vey limited buffet.
The wifi is excellent in the rooms and throughout the hotel.

Room Tip: For a quieter room ask for the back of the hotel there will be less street noise.

Hello Helen, thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay at our hotel. We are very sorry to hear that you did not experience the spectacular stay we try to deliver to each of our guests. Due to the historic nature of our property we can face some temperature issues when we have an exceptionally frigid winter as we experienced this year. Please be assured that your feedback and suggestions regarding the room have been passed on to our Sr. Manger of Room Operations for review. We hope you will come back to visit us in the summer months when you can experience the warm weather and our rooftop pool deck. Once again we really appreciate your feedback regarding our property and your stay. On behalf of our entire team we once again apologize that we did not deliver the exceptional experience to you that each one of our guests deserves when staying with us. We hope you will visit us again soon.

I'm told this hotel recently had a multi-million dollar renovation, but it's hard to see what they can possibly have spent the money on. Certainly not the windows, which are old and single glass - which in this weather means you wake up to ice on the inside of the windows. The heating functions (noisily - that obviously didn't get renovated either), but it doesn't make much difference near the window, so sitting at the desk for more than a few minutes at a time is not really an option.
They also haven't replaced the phones, which still have a "Delighted to serve" button. This corporate gimmick would be fine if they also made the effort to educate the staff as to the meaning of that phrase - because delighted service is NOT the norm here. Several times I had to call down because something that had been promised didn't arrive (laundry, incomplete or wrong room service order etc.), and the response was sullen, no apology being even attempted. One room-service breakfast was refunded (because it was not what I ordered) but that wasn't much help, because it took 45 minutes to arrive and by then I was out of time.
Sound proofing between rooms was also not on the agenda for renovation; I was still enduring next door's party at 1 am last night. I contemplated crashing it, but I needed the sleep.
Mr. Schwarzenegger is having his convention this weekend (yes, it was that kind of party next door), so moving hotels is not an option, but if it was, I would.

Very Good Location in Down Town area. Nice facilities. Good food varieties and quality. Excellent staff, very helpful. It is easy to go to different places from hotel. Good for both business and leisure tours. Reasonaby charged. Rooms are spacious and well equiped. Internet is charged and charges are reasonably high.

Room Tip: No preference

So, our room was nice but the bathroom was teeny, tiny....almost cruise ship sized. The lobby and the rest of the hotel was nice and upscale and the location is pretty good. I really don't think we would stay here again, it just isn't worth the price for an average hotel room.....plus you have to pay $$$ to valet and for very expensive breakfast.
