“Nice but expensive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2012

This was a very nice, clean hotel is a great location downtown. However for the expensive price you would think that a shuttle or a continental breakfast would be provided.

Service indeed makes all the difference to a well travelled biz person. Renaissance certainly has that -- and in spades!

Let's start with the front desk: always friendly and with a "can do" attitude. They certainly observe and effervesce the Renaissance tag line of "Delighted to Serve". If your wait is long due to a line, they are always apologizing prolifically.

The back office staff of Karen and Kathy are always trying to make sure they can accommodate you, if humanly possible. They're both very responsive.

Kevin in the executive lounge always, without fail, tries to see if he can assist you. I've seen him go above and beyond his expected duties to help other guests out, like delivering things directly to their rooms when he didn't have to do such things. I was recently having a foot issue and he offered to bring sodas down to my room so that I could stay hydrated, since the executive lounge was a fair distance from my room to walk.

Omar at the bar is engaging and even remembers your drink orders after just a couple of visits to the bar.

The food at the restaurant is also very good, especially for a hotel restaurant. Try the speckled chicken with goat cheese polenta.

The rooms are average sized, but are all fitted with a 36" inch Hi Def LCD and the cable TV is also HD. By comparison, I stayed at a wonderful Four Seasons in Cali last month, and although they had a 40" HD TV, the cable was regular digital and it was atrociously bad viewing. So, nice move. Attention to the details that biz travellers love.

The sheets are of good quality as is the bedding. If I could complain about anything it is that the mattresses are more of a 3 star hotel. They're not very expensive mattresses and you can tell. They're not terrible by any stretch but would love to see an upgrade.

Bath products are Aveda!

I always rate hotels and restaurants on where they are within their class. This is a 4 star hotel and at the top of a 4 star class.

The Renaissance is a premium Marriott location in the heart of downtown Columbus, OH. The rooms have all been updated as has the lobby and bar area. The staff is very friendly. The location puts you within walking distance of a lot of the Columbus highlights and a short cab ride to many great restaurants. If you are looking for a nice place to stay in Columbus this is a good choice. Ask for one of the high floor rooms which will give you a great view of downtown.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room for a great view of downtown Columbus.

A trip with my son to Columbus for a hockey game was a good one overall for our first trip to Columbus. The Renaissance was well placed centrally between "uptown" and "downtown" for convenience in walking around town. The lobby was sparse. Getting food late was only available at a crowded bar. The rooms were pretty standard, so not really a good value for the price we paid. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. No real conceirge, so a little lacking there on recommendations and in fact, had a bad one for a Sports Bar that was actually a dive. Too bad hotels think they have to charge thier guests for Wi-Fi after paying a pretty steep price for the room.

Staying at the Renaissance in downtown Columbus with a 9 month old grand baby while my daughter attended a conference during the day. First the wireless would not work and after many attempts working with the staff we gave up, they did not charge us for this service. A hotel of this status should be able to provide wireless service to their rooms, it is 2012! The maid did not come to clean the room to well after 5 pm she did not replace the glasses we used, but removed the ones we had used. She left no extra toilet paper or toiletries. She also did not replace all of our towels in the room.

This is not your typical Marriott Renaissance. The place has been remodeled. That said, a new rug, paint and headboards do not equal 'new'. Overall the experience was ok.

Check in went quickly. There were two clerks. Lots of activity in the hotel as it was the day before the Super Tuesday Primary (this hotel is right around the corner from the Ohio State Capital.) The lobby is clean, no complications get tot eh desk, get the keys and move to the elevators.

Te elevators were apparently not part of the multimillion dollar refurbishment- they had scratches and dings, even on the ceiling. The ride was quick and direct. I was assigned a room on the 12th floor. All rooms are within a quick walk of the elevator. The initial entry way of the room was dark, and uninviting. There was the coffee pot and 2 water bottles (for $5). The rooms are configured very tight. See the photos. Desk, TV, sitting area are all within 7 feet!!

The rooms HVAC was sub-par. It could not get warmer no matter how hhigh the setting was placed. And it was loud.

The fitness room was great, clean, comfortable. Sauna, it was worth the workouts. Plenty of machines to keep the place moving.
Bathroom is really a tight fit. sink, shower (no bath) toilet on top of each other. It is so close that the rom has a split door because the room cannot accommodate a regular door. The shower water was cold at 6am. That is unacceptable.

The lobby restaurant Latitude 41 is a exceptional restaurant. Small plates (i.e., mix and match your entrees) with reasonable prices and a continental trained Chef. Service could have been more attentive, but heck, for the prices this place has for the quality of the food, I'll take it.

am consistently finding the Renaissance chain to be the new shining star from Marriott. will be staying here when visiting my Nationwide client as it is only a few blocks away and genuinely a very nice place to set up shop. Room is comfortable and spacious and while the bathrooms are a little small, I personally like the fact that it featured a big shower stall and not a tub.

pros: location, great views from the club level, very helpful staff all around. good size room for a downtown hotel.

cons: no tub in bathroom, heat/air a little slow to respond but ultimately does, no public parking, valet only for $23 a day.

overall: pros far outweigh the cons. if you are doing business in Columbus this is a very nice choice.
