Z has become a staple on the Grandview Ave restaurant scene over the past few years and we've been going there since they opened. Sometimes it seems like places get complacent and "mail it in". We've had really good meals there as well as a couple of just "good" meals over the years; after all not every dining experience can be a home run right? But they’re very solid experiences at Z which is why we go back regularly.
We dined last night at Z and it was truly one of the best meals I've had anywhere--let alone there. There is a new summer menu and what I had was great. My wife seemed to enjoy hers as well.
I had the seafood linguine which was full of mussels, large shrimp and fish. The noodles were good but the broth it is served in was fantastic! It could easily have been a Cioppino and I would have loved it even more I think. And as I think about it they may have had a vegetarian Cioppino on the menu. I also had a summer salad from local produce (according to the menu). My wife had a salad and mussels that were "stuffed" with crab meat. She said they were great.
One of the best things about Z, in my opinion, is the level of service you get from not only the staff but the owner. I can't recall a time he wasn't greeting guests at the front door and stopping by tables to check on everything. That has to get old for him after awhile, right? But he is enthusiastic and sincere in wanting to make the dining experience the best it can be. Very hands on. Anyway our server Misa did a good job and we sat outside under the covered patio and it was great. Their version of Sangria was good too—perfect for this weather.
If you haven't tried this gem stop by--you'll be treated like family in no time. And if you haven't been for awhile for whatever reason the new menu is a winner.
