“An absolutely wonderful experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2014

This was our 2nd trip to visit our Miami U. Granddaughter and we couldn't have been more pleased. Based on our first experience (not so pleasant) at another location, this was everything my husband and I could have wanted. Standard room with lake view was perfect. Very clean and spacious. The deck w/chairs & table was such an added bonus (yes, we did use the deck, even in March). Appreciated the minifrig and microwave as we used both. We did eat dinner in the dining room once during our stay and were very pleased w/both the quality of our dinner plus the tentative staff. The Front Desk personnel were excellent and did everything possible to accommodate all our questions about the area, the Lodge, etc. The distance to Miami U is minimal, directions excellent (as were the directions from Mapquest to the Lodge for our initial arrival. Plus the posted signs for the park along the highway were very helpful.) All in all, after a 9.5 hour drive from Upstate New York, we were very, very happy and will definitely be back for another visit!!

Room Tip: Definitely Lake-side Rooms are the best from a "view" standpoint, however given this past...

We really appreciate the great review and thank you for taking the time to let everyone know about our beautiful lodge! Sitting on one of our decks overlooking Acton Lake is a great way to relax and enjoy mother nature. I will be sure to pass on your comments to the staff and hope you return to enjoy the lodge and park again!

Was invited to Hueston Woods Lodge by friends and family. The rooms were sort of plain but clean. The nice part of our stay consisted of the nature walks, trails and views of the lake. Outdoor pool was closed for the season but they have a heated warm pool kept at 98 degrees. They also have an indoor gym but no jacuzzi :-( ....If you go - try to book early for March when their Maple Festival is in bloom and be sure to get to the all you-can-eat maple syrup pancakes feature and served at the resorts restaurant. Also, don't miss taking the Maple tours and visiting the nature reserve. The staff is very friendly and aiming to please - plenty of free parking and the hotels fireplace is a great meeting place.

We found the lodge very nice and clean. People were very nice and seemed always ready to help. Had a very nice view of the lake. It's really nice place to go if you enjoy getting away and the outside. Had some nice trails, but they were very muddy from the snow melt. Most of the activities are not available in the winter months. Downs: Don't think a gps will find the best way to get there. My top of the line TomTom took us about 15 miles out of the way. Check your maps to find the best way. Signage and maps are very confusing. Very limited parking, if any for the trails. Just because there's something marked on the maps, doesn't mean you can find it. without asking. We have been to several hundred state parks in 20 states, in the last 25 years, and this one is the worst marked. NOW with that said. very nice place and I would go back.

Room Tip: Book early to get a room over looking the lake in the spring and summer, fall. Winter there is no p...

Family cabin for 4 adults and one kid (loved the bunk bed and gas fireplace) good meals in the lodge's dining room, close proximity to Oxford, salted sidewalks and plowed roads made for a nice Winter retreat. Look forward to returning when everything thaws out, to try some canooing and horseback riding.

We stayed at Hueston Woods Lodge and Conference Center in early January and were given a family cabin since the smaller cabin we reserved was not available.

The cabin was clean and well maintained, with the exception of the cold air coming in around the front door. The beds had extremely comfortable mattresses as compared to other resorts we've stayed at.

We had dinner at the Lodge and the food was surprisingly tasty. The only bad thing was the Muzak was circa 1973.

We'll go back again when we need a weekend away.

Room Tip: The couples cabins down by the lake have a romantic flare to them. Also be sure to visit the nature...

Thank you very much for the great review. Sitting near the fireplace in one of our cabins is a great place to enjoy a cold winter night. With 3600 acres and so much to see and do in the park, I hope you return to enjoy all the fun activities that are available!

Upsides: Very quiet and secluded with a great view of lake. We did get a nice "Buy 2 nights get 1 free" deal. Gas fireplace kept the room warm during a very cold winters weekend. Downsides: We had to go to Oxford to get air fresheners that barely dented the reeking smell of what we think was the well water. Fridge but no freezer...only enough very cheap dishes, cups and silverware for one meal. Had to hand wash dishes after each meal. Not would I would consider "well-appointed" kitchen. Had to wash all dishes before first use as they did not appear clean. Bed is only a double. Shower was so small you couldn't even turn around in it if you wanted to take a shower in the reeking well water. Description says 1 BR but this is really just an efficiency. Wifi was spotty as well having to re sign in every couple of hours. Keycard was a huge problem and very difficult to work with. Even had to go all the way back to the lodge to get a new one at one time. As parents of three kids, we really have the opportunity to "get away" only one weekend a year and despite trying to make the most of it, we couldn't even stay the third night as we were beginning to get severe headaches from the smell. As the title says, it was not all bad but generally disappointing for our one weekend away. For the same price or less next time we'll get a nice hotel in downtown Cincinnati.

Thank you for reaching out and letting us know about your stay in one of the cottages. We are on city water so I’m at a loss about the water situation, but I apologize for the problems you encountered and want you to know our Housekeeping and Maintenance teams are looking into the issues you mentioned. It sounds like one of our two-bedroom family cottages probably would have been a better fit for your family. Thanks again for letting us know.

Spent a winter weekend in one of the couples cabins: a great improvement since we stayed here 10 years ago. Newer furnishings and appliances, clean if basic. Wireless service a nice bonus. Ate at the lodge one evening: fair prices on a limited menu, friendly and prompt service, but brined pork chop was very dry...that's hard to do! Recommend you drive into Oxford for dinner.
