Stayed at this hotel in Clyde, Ohio based on the apparent AA rated recommendation in Jamie Jensen's Road Trip USA book. Now whilst I appreciate that that Jamie is trying to complete the whole 1950's & 60's traditional roadside motel experience for his readers I seriously doubt he has ever stayed here. The room had that stale smell like a house that has been unoccupied for several months mixed with ciggarette smoke and spilt beer. The mirrors on the ceiling was an uncomfortable concept in itself without having to wonder how they got the highly suspicious fingermarks all over them. The furniture was slowly falling apart and bed was unspeakably hard and uncomfortable. Fortunately it was hot enough to sleep on top of the bedcovers so we didn't dare venture inside them. To complete the experience in Hell's own hotel, what we didn't notice, having arrived after dark, was that our room backed directly onto a railway track. On the hour throughout the night we awoke to the lead in chorus of level crossing bells announcing the horn of a freight train that was so loud it sounded like the Wreck of the Ol' 97 was screaming through the bathroom. So unless you fancy a Motel experience so horrendous that the Coen Brothers couldn't dream it up, avoid the Winesburg in Clyde. In fact just keep going on down the road to Bellevue, much nicer town.
