“One of the Nicest Places to Eat for the Price”
Reviewed December 30, 2010

There are two Mooseheads, one on Dover Center Road and another in Olmsted Falls. Both have the same menu though the one in Olmsted Falls has a bit more in the way of seating.

Both offer patio seating during the non winter season and both offer a fairly extensive menu of domestic American fare. Portions are large of essentially any item on the menu.

In general, the menu is quite good. Most sandwiches come with chips and dip which are quite good. Appetizers are very large and designed to be shared. As my wife and I eat Nachos a lot, this is one of the few places where you run out of chips before you run out of toppings. Even the sliders are quite good.

Sandwiches are good as well, however pass on the Texas Toast in favor of the multigrain/wheat bread where appropriate. Of all of the dishes on the menu, only the fish (breaded Walleye) is a consistent disappointment.

Skip the iced tea as well, it's black tea with ginger rather than the orange pekoe you expect and is not very good.

Service is generally very good, however rather frequently you will be served your entrée before you've completed your appetizer, a consistent annoyance. The ingredients are quality if a notch below more expensive restaurants.

We like this mid priced restaurant enough that we frequently take out of town guests there for dinner. In my mind, it beats most chains in a similar price range, has a better menu and provides a good enough product and service to support a local business.

Highly recommended.

“The Mighty Moose!”
Reviewed January 24, 2010

I was making a run to Cleveland and checked out Trip Advisor before I left. Spotted the reviews of the Moosehead Saloon and decided to check it out. Once we arrived it looked like a run down building but once inside found it very cozy, clean and inviting. The girl at the bar greeted us, made us feel welcome and recommended some grub. I had a chicken sandwich that was accompanied by home made fresh chips with a french onion dip. HOMERUN!!!! Next time I am in the area I won't hesitate to stop in to this wonderful establishment.

“Bar food at its best.”
Reviewed October 15, 2009

This is a great place just to be. Decor is lodge-like, and they have a great belt-driven series of ceiling fans. Very attractive, very comfortable. I'm not a "bar person" but, if I were, this is the one I'd frequent. It's great all year long, but especially inviting on a winter evening. Service is always good. Burgers are delicious. Sandwiches are generous, but not ridiculously over-sized. Homemade potato chips with ranch dressing are very special. Salads are nice. My only complaint is that their cola is watery, so I drink lemonade or water with a twist instead. Not a big deal. It is a small establishment, and you see fewer families here than you see at the chain restaurants. I'd miss it if they packed up and disappeared.

“Great casual ambiance, food so-so”
Reviewed July 28, 2009

The food here does not appear to be "homemade" seems to be partially premade from a food service. The casual vibe is great though and the place is always busy.

“Outstanding neighborhood restaurant, consistent quality and value!”
Reviewed November 14, 2008

The Moosehead has rapidly become one of our favorite places to eat in Cleveland. Expanded within the last few years to have a beautiful patio dining area (during the warmer months), this small-but-charming restaurant is a consistent winner with variety to spare.

About 12 miles west of Cleveland, in the suburb of Westlake, just about a 5-minute drive from either the Columbia or Crocker Road exits from I-90. The restaurant is about a mile from Lake Erie, right on the border of Westlake and Bay Village. While access is easy, parking is usually anything but... there are limited spots in the Moosehead's lot, and the much larger lot down the street is supposed to be for the neighboring bar & coffee shop only. We've never had problems parking there when the Moosehead's lot is full, but driver beware, I suppose...

The Moosehead has a rotating selection of 6 draft beers, a huge variety (probably over 50) bottled beers, and a full bar, including a creative martini selection. 16 oz and 22 oz beers are served in ice-cold frosty mugs, and prices have always been reasonable. Try the namesake Moosehead Lager, imported from Canada, and not widely found elsewhere in the area.

The Moosehead's menu is huge, though somewhat weighted towards the sandwich selections. We've eaten here probably a dozen times now, and every meal has been delicious. For those looking for an entree, the "Moose on an Antler" shish-kebabs were tender and well seasoned, and their crab cakes were beautifully done. Speaking of the crab cakes, the "Surf and Turf Burger", which features a crab cake on top of the beef, was gigantic but excellent.

The Moosehead offers a surprising selection of creative salads, including the "BLT Salad", which has thick-cut bacon, egg, tomatoes, roasted red-skinned potatoes, and a variety of greens and other vegetables, served with a hot bacon dressing. They also have a pecan salad, served with a grilled chicken breast and a cranberry dressing, among a wider selection of traditional and unique salad options.

Their sandwiches all come with a healthy portion of home-made potato chips, cut and fried in-house, and served with a french-onion type dip. My favorites are "The Buffalo" -- a broiled or fried chicken breast covered with french fries, cheese, and mild or hot buffalo sauce. Also the Hot Roast Beef and Cheddar au Jus. There are two full pages in the menu dedicated to sandwiches, and we've yet to have a bad one.

For a terrible-for-you but delicious appetizer, try the Hot Buffalo Rolls... they're like nothing else we've ever had. Egg roll skins filled with chopped pepperoni, cheese, tomatoes, onions and spices, fried, and served with buffalo sauce and bleu cheese.

Overall, the indoor seating is tiny and the bar is cramped. But it is worth the wait to grab your table at this popular neighborhood haunt. In an area otherwise over-run with chain restaurants and seedy sports bars, The Moosehead Saloon is a memorable watering hole on the outskirts of Cleveland.
