Thank all the stars that in the 1960's Shaker residents protested and halted the creation of the Clark Freeway, which would have cut through the Shaker Lakes. Now, instead, there is this lovely wooded area and protected wetlands only steps from North Park Drive.
I've barely been inside the small Nature Center building. Instead I've walked the trails through this area, sat on the boardwalk benches, and watched birds twitter, weasels scamper, and groundhogs waddle through the woodlands. It's a beautiful walk, during all seasons, and an especially nice experience with children.
