We listened to the Cleveland Orchestra play Beethoven's 5th Symphony in the beautiful Severance Hall. Exquisite sound led by a dynamic conductor, Franz Welzer- Most.
The acoustics are excellent- even from up in the balcony. Intermission gave us time to stroll into the lobby to marvel at the architecture in silver and blue colors, pink marble, carpeted staircases. What a fantastic evening for all four of us adults.Tickets were $75 each in the balcony.

Children under 7 years old are not permitted at the adult concerts. Special concerts are held on weekend afternoons for young children.

We had wonderful first row center balcony seats with an unimpeded view of the orchestra. As lovers of the San Francisco Symphony, this was an especial treat and prices far more reasonable.

Our last visit to Severance Hall was over 40 years ago. While I was in training at Metro Health, my wife and I had the privilege of having Sunday Series tickets when the orchestra became world famous under the directorship of George Szell. We returned last week and found that we were still amazed in the upper balcony. The spectrum of acoustics was amazing from the the softest pianissimo to the loudest forte. The orchestra is still one of the best in the world, but the most impressive change is the beauty of the hall. We could not believe the gorgeous transformation and the Czech evening was truly satisfying. The place was well staffed with the most friendly and out-going people and they made us feel like old friends. It was a wonderful experience and we would recommend it to anyone who loves the arts and a concert experience.

What can you say about the most highly acclaimed orchestra in the land (and perhaps the world)? Severance Hall provides a beautiful venue for this outstanding band. The balcony is the the best place to view and hear the orchestra. For families they often have childrens' programs and of course, Christmas concerts. Parking is easy and there is a restaurant on-site, although Little Italy and the surrounding University Circle area have a number of very good restaurants, also.

This is acoustically and visually a lovely concert hall. We attended a Sunday afternoon concert and the advice of an orchestra member, we selected seats in the upper balcony. Her comment was "if you want to see and hear, go with the upper balcony. Go with the orchestra if you want to be seen." It was good advice.
