“Great Atmosphere, great beer”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

We stopped by for a brew after dinner at Lola and thoroughly enjoyed the setting (large slightly ornate old wood bar) not to mention the beer. Great selection of their freshly-brewed beers, good variety on tap. Partner immediately zeroed in on a dark as night ale. Me? Ever indecisive. The bartender offered short pours, so I selected their newly-released Oktoberfest and the smoked porter. Both were right on the money in style and taste. Would've had a full-sized porter if an early morning travel time wasn't on our calendar. So glad I can get Great Lakes in bottles near my home!

“Brewpub Bliss”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Located in an old speakeasy, Great Lakes is one of the earlier brewpubs (about 25 years old). It has a lot of different brews on tap, ranging from the overhopped IPAs that are so popular these days to much smoother stout, porter, Scottish ale, etc. The food is not world class but definitely at the upper end of brewpub fare. And you basically have three settings to choose from: the outside patio are (not recommended during Ohio winters), the main bar and restaurant, and the old downstairs era that definitely has that Prohibition-era feel. Service was friendly and good. Seems to be perpetually crowded (a sign of its popularity), but there are worse fates than having to start with a beer at the bar before they have a table ready for you. Also has an extensive gift shop (with bottled beer available) for the beerabilia collector. If you are not familiar with Cleveland history, definitely ask about the "Burning River" pale ale. This should definitely be a stop for any beer lover.

“Local but Nationally famous”

They make a variety of beer and ale and serve up a tastey meal to boot. Love to go there and savor gustatory pleasures and people watch at the same time.

“The Best of the Locals”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

In an area marked by many microbreweries, GLBC is the original and the best. The excellent beers, free brewery tours and a menu that draws heavily on locally produced goods (including many ingredients grown on GLBC's own farmland) set it apart from all the others. GLBC has a longtime commitment to environmentally friendly and innovative practices. You can always feel good about going here!
