Had a delicious Hungarian meal on Mother's Day last month at Balaton. However, our family had to wait an hour for our table to be ready even though we arrived on time. As we waited other patrons were trying to get into the restaurant which further compounded a really unpleasant situation.
Clearly, the Balaton had overbooked.

Warm atmosphere, good service, great food. Had stuffed cabbage as an appetizer and it was delicious. It was as good as my Hungarian grandmother's recipe. Great bread. Wiener schnitzel with veal was tender and delicious served with a slice of lemon and spaetzle dumplings with a light gravy. Portions are large but for less money you can order a smaller portion. The menu is extensive with old world standards such as goulash and paprikash. For dessert they offer crepes with various fillings, strudel and torte cake. There are few Eastern European restaurants and fortunately this one offers authentic high quality food with reasonable prices.

I remember going to Balaton's when it was on 116th and Buckeye Rd.

Not much has changed .. the family still owns it, the service is still great and the food is superb -- everything on the menu is great .. don't forget the Chicken Paprikash or the Stuffed Cabbage.. and for dessert don't miss the Dobosh Torte, it's raging delicious.

Balaton's was great 30 years ago -- and it's even better today.
