Corn beef is the thing here. Probably the only thing worth talking about. Served in the tradition of the NYC delis you get about a pound of very lean - too lean for my tastes to rate as "world class" - on very good traditional deli rye served as a Rueben of any variation on the theme that moves you. Half a sandwich is about all any normal person can eat without being glutonous. French fries and bought in frozen. Self promo stuff on the wall is just that. Atmosphere is clean industrial zone lunch dive. If you crave a good corn beef sandwich fine but, don't let believe the raves on other reviews.

This was my 2nd visit to Slyman's and probably my last. Slyman's is Cleveland's landmark corned beef sandwich shop. They pile the sandwiches high with decent warm corned beef. The pickles were uninspiring (I am a native New Yorker and I want a good pickle with my deli sandwich!). French fries were also average. Service leaves lots to be desired. Go if you must have the experience - otherwise, try somewhere else!

When we visited 2 years ago we arrived a little before 2 in the afternoon and 3 people in front of us they ran out! We were so bummed! So this time we arrived at 11am and ordered Reuben's. We sat at one of the tables and the sandwich speaks for itself! It is one of the best Reuben sandwiches you will ever eat anywhere! The sauce they have is really great that you can put it on it. Do it!

Tip: If you don't eat it all, ask if you can buy a little extra bread. Also, you can get to go sauces.

There is a reason everyone in town goes to Slyman's for the Corned Beef sandwiches. Just know that you will not be able to eat all of it unless you are an NFL lineman. Not too worry they nicely give you a container to go. (It would be nice if they added a couple slices of bread for your next sandwich.)
The place is 1950s, some may call it vintage but it's not that quaint. It's actually kind of disappointing that a place this popular can not spruce up which is why I am not giving it five stars. Rest of menu is deli stuff.

If you love corned beef, and you're fortunate enough to find yourself on St. Clair Ave. anytime between 11:00 am and 2 pm, treat yourself to this place. If you're a novice, you'll want to dine in. Don't be put off by the line of people out the door and onto the sidewalk; they're there for carry-out. Just say "Excuse Me," and the line will part like the Red Sea did for Moses. The first thing you'll notice is that the place is small. It has a quaint, albeit busy, kind of feel: like cross between a New York deli and a family get together! Once you're seated, don't be overwhelmed by the menu. One of the waitresses will be happy to explain it to you and your party. (Also, if you've ever been to a New York deli, the menu prices here are not typos: about half of what you'd pay in the Big Apple!) That having been said, the corned beef is the best around: not just Cleveland, or Ohio, but anywhere! The sandwiches are large, delicious meals in themselves. With the first bite, you'll forget how small, and crowded, the dining room is. Your all-consuming mission will be trying to finish the sandwich before you! If you can't, don't worry; many before you have tried and failed. Just take it with you; it's great even re-warmed. The service is conscientious, efficient, and friendly. After one visit you'll be a fan!
