This is not a place to go on a diet - but if you want a real taste of Cleveland's traditional Polish food dive in! The place is incredible and probably unlike anyplace you've ever been. When you enter you start with a wait in the cafeteria style service line. The dinners for the night are all filling and delicious...my personal fave is the Chicken Paprikash - my hubby likes the pierogi and pork chops. There is LOTS to look at and learn from the walls of this place. It certainly tells a story!

The best way to describe Sokolowski's University Inn is that it is an institution. If you are in Cleveland, it is a place that you must try at least once in your lifetime. The food is served cafeteria style, but it seems pretty fresh. The volume of people that pass through result in rapid replenishment of the steam table items. If you are looking for some very home-style Polish cooking, this may be your place. For me, it was a once in a lifetime experience, but I'm glad I did it.

Having lived in Germany I love coming here for some of that old country food. Everything is very good from the salad bar to the entrees to the desserts. The pierogies are delicious. Potatoes are always good. The service is excellent. You'll enjoy the dark wooden interior and perhaps even some live piano music. The bar always has friendly and helpful locals smiling into their beer. You must go here if you really want a taste of Cleveland!

Dinner for two with desserts was about $45

Sokolowski has lots of old school charm as you walk in by the bar. It is cafeteria style, and desserts are presented first in the line up. I had a huge cabbage roll loaded with meat, a bite or two of sausages which I swiped from my husband's plate, and halushki. Being Ukrankian it took me back to the dishes my grandmother and mom made. Portions are huge. You do not know what is on the menu but it is definitely worth a trip. We even had Piano music for lunch & you could request songs.

...Sokolowski's is the oldest family run restaurant in the city of Cleveland, and has been going strong for 90 years. The interior was a little dark, but it reminds you of going into your grandparents' den. Sokolowski's serves mostly Polish food, cafeteria style. That means you get a tray, pick up your dessert, and then go along picking your entree and sides. Naturally, being that I LOVE those potato filled pockets of goodness called pierogies, I chose them as a side, as well as a cream-sauce covered chicken fillet, sweet potatoes, and a slice of apple pie. My plate wasn't "pretty", but it was tasty (thankfully not too salty!) and packed with way too much food...read more at my blog www.fiftystates5years.blogspot.com!
