This is the Mother Church of Rock and Roll. Say what you will about the arbitrary and sometimes moronic nature of selection; once inside you will appreciate that someone took the time and energy to collect the artifacts of a musical genre that wasn't supposed to last more than a decade. The only problem? The place is only open from 10AM to 5:30 - even on weekends. At least they recently added evening hours on Wednesday (til 9PM) -- if you're in Cleveland on business travel, that might be your only opportunity to visit. These are not very R&R-friendly hours, but if you can fit it into your schedule, the R&R Hall is worth a visit.

The Rock Hall is a great concept although it is lacking in substance. The building is far too small and the fact that major Rock Hall Induction events are held elsewhere are a great source of contention to Clevelanders.

This is a museum with displays of everything having to do with rock and roll musicians: musical instruments (lots of guitars), clothing, shoes, handwritten lyrics, etc. There is also a gift shop with the usual T-shirts, hats, and other gift shop type items. I bought my son a winter hat there which he loved. We arrived there about 2 hours before closing time so we only got to see one floor out of 7 but that was all the walking I was able to do anyways as I have arthritis. I would like to return to see the other floors.

And trip to Cleveland would not be complete with a visit here. If you think you know about rock trivia and history you don't. You will learn more than a few things here. The exhibits and traffic flow are well thought out.

This place is overwhelming, and covers every time and place. From Janis Joplin's painted porche, to many original lyric sheets, and Michael Jackson's glove, it is the visual history of rock. We went in November, and there were no big crowds, and the area is quite central.
