Hampton Inn Cleveland Downtown
Ranked #11 of 38 Hotels in Cleveland
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 5, 2008

We take a bi-annual sports trip to Cleveland to see our local teams play a bitter rival. We've stayed at the Hampton Inn on two of these occassions over the past two years with obvious reason!
Our stays have been wonderful from the service to the sleep. The staff is always friendly upon check-in and during the stay. Check-in and out is easy and they accomodated any request we've had. The rooms are exceptionally clean and comfortable.
The hotel has a wonderful complimentary breakfast; more than just eggs and toast! The dining area overlooks the street and provides a relaxing atmosphere.
The hotel is within walking distance to just about every attraction in the downtown area, some longer than others, but was easily accessable to Jacobs Field and Cleveland Browns Stadium.
I would highly recommend this hotel for your future stay!

We got this room for $50-60 through Hotwire and it was well worth it. It's in a great location if you're looking for a place to stay before/after a game at Progressive Field (Indians, formerly Jacobs Field) or "the Q" (Quickens Loans Arena - where the Cavs play). The Cleveland downtown in going through a renewal and the Hampton Inn is in a very convienient location.

The staff was very nice, valet parking was affordable at $18/night and the Hampton Inn breakfast was good - not Drury Inn good - but a close second.

We had a nice view of the Lake Erie from our room, but our parents had a room that looked at the windows of the rest of the building. If you looked up, you could see sky, but that's it.

I'm not sure what the regular rate is for this hotel on a weekday, but for our discount rate it was a fantastic deal. I'd pay $100-120 to stay here on a weekday without hesitation.

We would like to apologize that our staff did not acknowledge the reviewee as a Diamond Member of Hilton Honors at check in. We have since reminded our staff on how to welcome all guests including our loyalty guests members. The hotel would like to share our standard set up of our bath amenities as it is a Hampton standard. Our signature bath amenities line is called Purity Basics. In each room all guest will find shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, facial soap and body soap. We also provide makeup remover, a shoe mit and shower cap. Our hotel is located in the heart of Cleveland as reviewee mentioned. Although we differ a bit from New York City, there is still plenty to do downtown after 5:30pm. Our staff can assist with recommendations on local dining and attractions. We have handouts available behind our desk and a " vacation desk" located across from hotel elevators advertising various "Things to do in Cleveland". We hope that we will have a second chance to welcome our Diamond member from New York again!

Stayed here one night on business, and was a tad underwhelmed.
I've stayed in about 25 Hampton Inns nationwide, but basically know what to expect.
The room was a bit dark and dated, though otherwise clean. The amenities in the bathroom were on the skimpy side, no lotion or mouthwash, e.g.
Check-in was fast and friendly. However, I was not recognized as a Hilton Diamond member. Ordinarily, that would have meant a couple of bottles of water and cookies in the room. Didn't happen. For $132 a night, it should have.
The hotel is well-located if you have meetings or a company office downtown. Bear in mind, though, that Cleveland is not a walking city, and the streets near the hotel will be deserted by 5:30, which was quite a jolt for someone like me coming from New York.
The only nearby choice for a dinner is a Subway across the street. On East 9th in the rather-empty Galleria about a block away is a decent restaurant called Key West, though check if it's open for dinner before you go.
Otherwise, you need to get into a car or cab. You DO NOT want to walk around this neighborhood at night if you don't know where you're going. And never go it alone under any circumstances. Sounds ominous? If you go, you'll see what I mean.

We have been staying at the Hampton for several years and always found it to be convenient, clean, and reasonably priced. The last time we stayed, in December, we found they had installed new pillowtop beds and upgraded the linens - they were really nice and something I didn't expect to see at this price level. The continental breakfast is also a step up from the ordinary.
Like other commenters have said, there's not a lot dining-wise in the area, but a less than $10 cab ride away there are many choices.

We had an excellent room. Clean, big, and the bed was wonderful. The hotel was well lit and was secure. It was my husband's 50th birthday, so I called and Jeff the manager arranged for a gift basket at the last minute to be placed in his room..and he went above and beyond doing so. From the front desk staff to the valets, to the morning breakfast staff, everyone was kind, warm, and helpful. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Ask for the best places to eat and they will give you the best tips!!!

Just a warning....Cleveland kind of rolls up the sidewalks around 6:00....we came in during a playoff game and a concert night, and it was still empty. It was only busy before and after the events. Make sure you make plans on what you want to do BEFORE you visit. Cleveland is a very clean and beautiful city though....I will go back to see the sights again.

We stayed one night at the Hampton Inn in downtown Cleveland. The hotel is easy to find. It is on the left side of the street. If you arrive on the right, just keep going down straight for 5 or so blocks, and you will come to a cul-de-sac (on the waterfront - by the Brown's stadium & the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame) where you can go back up. I used the valet parking, which was fantastic. I don't live in a big city, so was glad to just let someone else take care of the parking. Check in was speedy, the staff very friendly and helpful. We were provided a map of the downtown area. Our room was a bit warm, it had 2 doubles and a sitting area with a fold-out sofa bed. The sitting area had a ceiling fan, but no A/C in it. We were within walking distance to Jacob's field. At bedtime, we went to fold out the couch, and the frame was bent, so when you tried to open it the whole way, the couch part came off the ground. It was also dirty on the carpet under the couch (2 bandaids & crumbs). I called the front desk, was told the hotel was sold out (the Yankees were in town), and they had no more roll-aways. They would bring up blankets and sheets and we could make a "nest" on the floor. I did tell the gentleman that I did expect my bill to be adjusted. It was not his fault, and he was very nice and professional. The breakfast was great. Since the hotel was sold out, it was very busy and only had 1 woman working trying to keep up and keep things stocked. Upon checkout, I did reiterate the problem with the sofa bed and how our party had to sleep on the floor. I did request my bill be adjusted to pay for a double bed room versus the suite, and to my suprise, they credited the whole bill. That was classy and very unexpected.

I would not hesitate to stay here again. Great location, close to all the sporting arenas, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and the Science Center. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful.

Hit Cleveland for a weekend Yankees/Indians series- Read earlier reviews and decided to try the Hampton Inn on E 9th St.- It was a good choice- While they did raise the rates because of the weekend in question, the room was very clean and comfortable, the front desk staff was very courteous and helpful, and the location (easy walking distance to the Jake, Browns Stadium, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) was excellent- I would definitely stay there again although, sadly, except for the previously mentioned attractions, Cleveland has pretty much become a ghost town (all the buildings downtown are empty and The Flats is dead)
