“Lovely Place!”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

When I rolled up with my family, I never expected the Hotel to look this good! It has a feel of a Mansion. The day I arrived their was a wedding and valets were parking the cars if needed. When I walked into reception, the first thing you noticed is the quality of the upholstery and the chairs are executive standard. The person on reception gave me a great welcome and was very helpful. When I went to the room, I was amazed how spacious it was. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was a great size. The Hotel has a restaurant next to them and the food their was brilliant. The Hotel itself is situated away from the town centre and we drove to the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame whch took 15 mins.We stayed here 2 nights. The breakfast room had a good selection of food even for the most fussy of person, what more can you ask!Highly recommended.

Used this hotel for 2 nights so we could visit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and not be right in the city. (Drive towards the city down Euclid Ave and turn right at E 9th Street till you see signs for it - that was the most straightforward way to find it, takes about 30 mins) Hotel is about 5 miles out near the hospitals and clinics attached to the University, so lots of students around - there's a handy Uni coffee shop at the back of the car park pointed out to us by one of the hotel staff. Decor very warm and inviting inside the hotel, staff friendly and helpful, breakfast plentiful and lots of variety - cereals, oatmeal, youghurts, berries, bagels, crumpets croissants, cold meat and cheese slices, fresh fruit....NOT that I had ALL of those :-))) Only criticism is the feeble portion of coffee, sugar and milk in the room; I guess we could have asked for more but 1 each of the items is not enough! So I just drank the bottle of water and let my husband have the coffee such as it was. To end on an 'up' note, the bed was really comfy !

Room Tip: 2nd floor room we had was lovely & quiet

We were delighted with our stay in this historic building. (Built in 1909 by the Glidden Paint family, it is on the National Registry of Historic Places.) The front portion of the hotel, which appears to be the original home, is furnished with lovely antiques and museum-quality prints and sculptures. There are large lounging areas, a pretty bar with an outdoor patio perfect for pre- or post-dinner cocktails, and several dining areas, including a sunny enclosed porch. The newer rear addition contains the very clean rooms, which are not huge, but are large enough and comfortably furnished in pretty antiques with contemporary touches to the decorating scheme. The breakfasts were wonderful: you could choose among offerings from eggs, bacon, and sausage to pancakes, sweet breads, and croissants. Granola and generous bowls of fresh fruit were also available, along with European-style cold cuts and cheeses, with miniature bottles of condiments. We had such a large breakfast that we were able to skip lunch (even with walking 5 miles a day!) both days of our stay. The breakfast room, which looks out onto the grounds and patio, is a lovely plae to eat. The location is amazing; the house is almost on the campus of Case Western Reserve University, and is just a few steps from the Botanical Gardens (beautiful). Walk another block or two and be wowed by the Cleveland Art Museum. I was excited to see a huge Rodin sculpture against the blue sky in front of the museum, then found an entire room of his work inside. The collection ranges from prehistoric through Africa, Greece, Rome, and Egypt to Renaisssance works, Impressionists, Post-Impressionists, Fauvists, Surrealists, and Contemporary art (and I'm sure I'm omitting a lot!). We are usually out of a museum after two hours at most, but I think we spent 3-1/2 hours here and could easily have spent more. We'd intended to go downtown in the afternoon, but stayed here too long for that. No regrets! We found two wonderful restaurants within walking distance of the house: L'Albatross is less than a block away and serves French-influenced food on a large patio on summer nights. A few blocks farther away, in Little Italy (worth the walk in itself) is Etna, whose chef hails from Sicily and whose food and service are incredible. La Dolce Vita is a great place for a pre-dinner glass of wine (we didn't get a chance to try their food). We walked down to Wade Oval on our second night for the Wednesday night concert, which was a blast! Good music and an enthusiastic crowd including all ages - too much fun! We also walked to the cultural gardens on the advice of two very kind Cleveland natives we ran into and enjoyed the information and sculptures from many different nations. We were just astounded at what this city has to offer and hope we can get back again. Don't know if we'll ever be able to tear ourselves away from this neighborhood to check out downtown, though!

We stayed here Sunday night over Labor Day weekend. I had been cycling all weekend and we got in very late Sunday night. Before we went to bed Sunday night we asked about the hotel's breakfast for Monday. We were told breakfast would be running until 10:30. When we arrived at breakfast at 9:50 almost everything was gone. There was no oatmeal, no eggs, no pancakes. We asked the servers if any of the items would be replaces and they said that breakfast would be over by the timer they made more. When I went to the front desk and asked for the hotel manager I was told there was no manager on duty. I mentioned that there was no breakfast left and this was not meeting our expectations. I was asked to wait for a minute and one of the servers came over and said she would make some pancakes, but nothing else. No one seemed to care that we were told the night before we could get breakfast until 10:30.

The hotel is nice with a pleasant atmosphere, but the service was terrible. Not worthy of the #1 rated hotel on TA for Cleveland.

My husband and I stayed for four wonderful days at this charming hotel. It was so much more than we were anticipating. The staff were very inviting and gave us much information about the hotel and surroundings. Breakfast is included and was elegantly presented and if you're lucky to have the chance to sit in the enclosed garden room your experience is double. The breakfast staff is very friendly and the banquet table is situated in a gorgeous vintage room.. You are close to everything. The Cleveland Art Museum is in walking distance as is the Botanical Gardens. Assigned parking made it easy to park.We can't wait to come back again. A Wonderful experience. First rate.

My husband and I spent the night here and we loved it. The concierge was great, super friendly and really helpful. We were there on a Wednesday and he showed us a flier about an outdoor concert and festival that was very close. We walked over and had a great time. It was free and happens every Wednesday during the summer. All of the other employees were really friendly too.

The room was very, very clean and really nice. Not huge but great for two people. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was immaculate. The woodwork throughout the hotel is fantastic and gives the place an air of comfort and sophistication. The price was also great and included breakfast in the am and two tickets for drinks at the hotel bar.

Finally, what a great location. It was a beautiful night and we had the best time walking around the Case campus and walking to Little Italy. There is a coffee house next door that had live music the night we were there. You could just walk over and listen for awhile. We will most definitely go back. This place is a gem.

Wedding reception or just staying here for a few days the Glidden House is a great place to stay. The rooms are nice and the help very friendly and helpful. Close to Case Western College and the museums the location could not be better. A hot breakfast with sausage and pasteries. Except for no pool or excercise room this hotel is a nice place to stay.

Room Tip: Get to breakfast early pastries are very good and are in limited quanties.
