“What a View”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

We decided to take a drive to Amish country this weekend and stumbled upon the Guggisberg Inn. What a great find! Rooms are clean, staff is awesome and the view is absolutely beautiful. Horses roam the grounds which are quite large and in a great location on a hill over looking a valley. Is centrally located to attractions but off the beat and path. Horseback riding was also a treat. Enjoyed the peace of the morning sitting on a swing outside our room having coffee and enjoying the view. Going back again in a few weeks to take in some fall colors, looking forward to our second visit at the inn!

This place was a little piece of heaven. My fiance and I stayed there on August 13, with the annual hog roast they have as a little surprise. Most of the guests were already acquainted with each other, so it was like I was meeting a new group of friends. It was clean, and the friendly staff clearly wanted me to enjoy every part of my stay. The hotel sits up on a hill top, away from all the traffic. It was so peaceful, and a definite vacation from the loud bustling city life. The horses at the hotel roam FREE! I was amazed, but they were so entertaining that it was truly a treat. I already consider the owners, Eric and Julia, to be friends. We sat and chatted with both of them for quite some time, and they treated us like family. We decided that when we return to Amish country, there is no where else we will stay! Definitely recommended!

Room Tip: They all have great view, but the suite is the only one that has a view of the back. The top floor h...

The staff at the hotel was very friendly. My friend and I stayed there to see the Amish country. The grounds are very pretty and peaceful. Our room did seem to be clean but the bed was a little uncomfortable as my back ached a little each morning. The breakfast was good and filled you up. We did go on the horse ride which was fun and it was so charming to have an Amish girl be our guide. We also took part in having dinner at the home of an Amish family. There were about 16 of us from the hotel who did this. It was a great cultural experience. They did serve us a lot of food which tasted good but it wasn't over the top fantastic as far as flavor. But I think that may be a part of the mid-west pallatte. It is something I would try again.

Room Tip: It is a very quiet location.

My wife and I have stayed at the Guggisberg Swiss Inn for years. For me to sit down and right about a hotel stay is something else. Everytime we go we are treated like family. There is just one place to stay in the Amish country and this is it. Keep up the good work and you will see us soon. They include a evening snack and a morning breakfast casserole that is out of this world. The rooms are clean and the staff is just the best.

We were here with a large family group and we were very pleased. The rooms were clean, and in good condition. The breakfast was nice and the staff friendly and helpful. A real bonus for those that like to horeride is that it can be arranged at the hotel and the stables are a short walk. The kids loved feeding the ducks.

We traveled with friends from Switzerland for a week and this was our last B&B and the worst. All the B&B's cost about the same but this the Inn was lacking. Our friends room had bugs on the carpet and the sheets were not clean or they just had stains (we don't know for sure). They didn't see this until late in the evening and so they just slept on their beach towels over the sheets and pillows. Our room was clean but the furniture, hair dryer, etc., all seemed to be orginal to when the Inn was built...maybe in the 1980's? For breakfast they did make omelets to order but other than that it was cold cereal and some pastries. The coffee was OK, would have appreciated a cup of coffee that you can't see through. Just an OK breakfast, especially as compared to the other B&B's where we had been. The lobby had some nice Swiss items, but the pictures on the wall where faded (maybe they could contact the Swiss Travel Board to have some new posters sent?) and other items were aging. Most hotels would have some routine updating, replacement of aging items, but this hotel must be controlling the budget and not re-investing in the Inn. The setting was quite nice, beautiful farm country side. I would go back to the area again, but we would definately select another hotel. Oh, and we never saw any horses as so many of their photos showed.

Room Tip: I have no advise, since we would not recommend staying here.

Thank you for the review. We are so very sorry that you didnt enjoy your stay. We are very sorry that we didnt meet your standards. We get an awful lot of wonderful comments on our breakfast. Our breakfast casserole is our feature dish and we re very sorry that you missed it. It was right next to the omelet bar. I.m not sure if you were aware but we arent a B & B and we dont advertise being a B & B so the breakfast was more than most INN s will put out.
I understand that your friends were unhappy but it seems that you re room was fine. They never mentioned anything until the next morning so we had no time to repair the issues. Unfortunately there was little we could do after this point.
The horses come out most evenings. We dont have a set time for them to come out so you may have missed them.
Remember one thing, you are in the country. The bug that was in the room was just a ground beetle. We are in the country.

We stayed the night at Guggusberg Swill Inn, It was a sudden decision to go to the Amish Country, couldn't get a room at the Carlisle House where we stayed and loved so much, they recommended the Guggisberg Swiss Inn to us. Absolutely great, the atmosphere, the grounds, horses, people at the desk, entertainment was superb. I would rated it excellent, but the tub wouldn't drain in our room, I told the staff, I am sure they have had it fixed, can't wait to go back,
