Love the old-fashioned atmosphere with high booths and original table tops. The ice-cream is homemade and it tastes like "more" :) Be prepared to take home a pint or so of their strawberry ice-cream or mint-chocolate chip for those late-night cravings.

If you are in Canton, and want to experience one of the best ice cream desserts in the world - got to Taggart's and order a Bittner. Ice cream chocolate syrup, pecans, and whipped cream. I have tried to duplicate this sundae at home without success. I don't know how they do it but the bittner will make anyone break their diet and be happy about it.

Not much has changed in Taggarts since the 1920s, which is reason enough to pay a visit if you love history, tradition and Americana. An added bonus is the turtle sundae - pecans toasted to perfection, piled on top of homemade ice cream and smothered with the perfect blend of caramel and hot fudge. The place is famous for its Bittner sundae, which my husband ordered, but the turtle sundae is the real showstopper. Add a pretty decent hamburger and fries, and you'll be over the moon with nostalgia. We squeezed a trip to Taggarts in between visits to the McKinley Presidential Library and the Hoover (as in the vacuum cleaner) National Historic Site. Quite a day for a couple of history geeks!
