The food was excellent for dinner, dont forget to get the pretzel. coffee in the morning was delicious. rooms were clean and roomy. pool outside was great and nice to have a big one inside if the weather isnt nice. the golf course is challenging. there is plenty of extra activities at reasonable prices. the staff is warm, prompt and great. fun to see the wild deer so friendly. great incentives to return. plenty of activities for the kids. great get away for a great price close to home. we plan on going several times a year with our group.

After reading other reviews, we were wary of the accomodations. Not to worry. The rooms are charming. Yes, the place was built in 1972, but the rooms themselves are spotless, with new linens and fresh paint. They have family rooms with two double beds and two bunk beds that are surprisingly large and perfect for families. The hallways are a bit rough (old, spotted carpet and very dark) but you are seldom exposed to them so they can be overlooked given the reasonable price for the rooms plus amenties.

The restaurant is another ball of wax. When we made ourroom reservations we inquired about the restaurant but no one bothered to mention that the 5 page menu posted on the website was not in use. In its place was a "simplified" menu of about 10 items with no choice of sides. As it was 7:30 PM when we discovered this and the closest alternative to the Lodge restaurant was 15 to 20 minutes away, we elected to make do with the limited selection.

After one hour, we still had no food. We were told that they had more guests than expected (10 tables total). Shortly thereafter, our food arrived cold and undercooked. Also, one of our party got a chicken dinner instead of the sandwich. When we told our watitress this she did not apologize. Instead, she brought a bun and still tried to charge us the price of the dinner (+$4) instead of the sandwich. The waitress (who was also the supervisor) did bring us burgers after we complained about our initial orders but had absolutely no social skills. We finally got out of there 2 3/4 hours later having paid full price for our dinners. If we had not been absolutely starving, we would not have taken the abuse dished out by Pam the waitress/supervisor. As we were leaving, she was on the phone to the front desk complaining about "some old biddy" she had to wait on earlier. With 11% of Ohio unemployed, you would think they could find someone more interested in customer service.

So, avoid the restaurant, bring your own food and you will enjoy this lovely little piece of Ohio.

Room Tip: If you do not have children, ask for a room away from the family type rooms. As this is a great pla...

Management response:Responded July 13, 2012

Thank you for staying with us recently.

I am forwarding your guest room cleanliness compliments to our Housekeeping Manager. She enjoys sharing positive feedback with her team. In terms of maintenance, we are in the process of replacing guestroom corridor carpeting, wall coverings and lighting sconces. We look forward to a completion date in fall, 2012.

After reviewing your restaurant critique, I gather that you dined with us on either July 1 or 2. Unfortunately we were not at our best on either day. Salt Fork, like so many other businesses in our area, was impacted by the massive storms that hit our state on July 29th. While the projected power outage for our area was four to seven days, Salt Fork was fortunate to have power restored within two days. In some areas of the lodge, we were able to hit the ground running once the power returned. Not so for the restaurant. For various reasons, we were compelled to run a limited menu for the first four meal periods. Of course this does not excuse any display of inappropriate behavior exhibited by a member of my staff, or sub-standard food quality. I thank you for your candor and apologize for our overall poor performance.

Hopefully we’ll have an opportunity to welcome you back when we can put forth a more positive experience in our restaurant.

Best Regards,
Keith Cook
General Manager

We took our small youth group (6 teens) for an overnight trip in June. They loved it! We took advantage of all of the wonderful atmosphere of the park as well as the pools. The hot tub had so much chlorine that it burned everyone's eyes, but the pools were great (inside, outside and kiddie pool). We loved it and will be back....they made me promise!

Room Tip: Some rooms have been updated, but not all. Ask for an updated one if you want the nice big flat tv...

My husband & I took my daughter, son in law & 2 grandkids (ages 5 & 6) for the kick off to summer weekend in June. While we were return customers my son in law & grandkids were 1st timers. A good time was had by all. My grandchildren developed a fascination for shuffleboard & as our room was a bunk pool walkout & was directly adjacent to the shuffleboard area, they had a blast! The pool walk out rms have a picnic table on your patio & since we brought food for breakfast & most meals for the kids it was a definite benefit. Also kept crumbs, etc outside the room! I loved the eco-friendly toiletries. There was a recycling trash can in our rm but until we actualy pulled it out from under the counter in the bathrooom we all just assumed it was a trash can. oops! They could have informed us better of recycling opportunities. The band at the pool was the only downer of the weekend, it was like listening to really bad karaoke! Facilities are kept up well & the lodge is spotless! I had no complaints with the staff. My daughter is 19 wks pregnant with triplets & the staff kept checking to see if she needed anything-she really enjoyed the extra attention. Upon check out I was given a coupon to return for $79/nite during the week thru summer. We plan to put the coupon to good use!

Room Tip: pool walk outs are worth the extra $ during the summer especially if you have children. For couples...

My husband and I took our three kids to Salt Fork State Park in June. We stayed in one of the lake side chalet's. The fishing was great. We caught blue gill, cat fish, and crappies. The chalet was nice especially the hot tub. The location on the lake was excellent. We will definatly return. We even think we heard the grass man of Ohio one night! Great park for families and reunions.
