I'm rather surprised by some of the negative reviews here. Ampika's food is fresh & authentic. As locals, we are very happy that this Thai restaurant has opened in Willunga & serves take away food as well as catering for dine-in customers. We have experienced both & each time we have really enjoyed the food. Admittedly, the take away prices are a little pricey, but the quality of the food is worth it. Cheap Thai is avail up the road, but I can't eat it! We recommend Ampika's for a great Thai meal in Willunga.

Maybe we just ended up here because almost all of Willunga's highly rated eateries are not much help for the hungry traveler unless you visit on a weekend, On a Wednesday, you'll find almost everything closed. So our host recommended Ampika's for it's food and because t's open on weekdays as well!
So what can I say. Amazingly fresh and great Thai food with ingredients right from the garden. After a day of cycling in 38°C, still jet lagged and fighting off the last bits of a cold, that meal really brought us back to life. Not to mention the friendly service and the chat with a fabulous host. Strongly recommended!

what a delightful restaurant with food to die for, if you looking for mainstream thai you will find everywhere else dont dine here. Loved the way the owner explained how the dishes came about and the use of local produce where possible.
Sure service maybe slow but when the food is this good and you can byo whats the hurry, sit back, relax and enjoy the delightful food journey you wil be taken on.

Willunga is such a beautiful township and was very excited to try the new Thai restaurant. The setting is great very quirky/retro, small but cosy and was greeted nicely by the owner and staff. Thai food is one of our favourite cuisines for its freshness and flavours. Unfortunately the food from here was very different to any other Thai food we have tasted. Satay chicken tasted like it was soaked in sour milk mixed with parmesan cheese, couldnt finish this. Squid tubes had the same strange taste. Laksa, very gluggy. Fried rice came out with a fried egg on top with tomatoe sauce squirted on top!!!
Maybe this is traditional food to a part of Thailand that we havent tasted before but unfortunately not to our liking. We will not be back sorry.

Ampikas kitchen is traditional thai food by people who love Thailand. The owners told us of their travel through Thailand and their relationships with the Thai people. They have clearly brought this love back to Australia and have done it in style. My partner and I live locally and had a date night at Ampikas kitchen and it left us with a desire to return. Their red curry seafood which is now always available as a special is a must. We shared our meals as we most often do and all of our meals were amazing. The fit out of the restaurant is with traditional retro furniture (strange for thai, but its nice) and it is a very relaxed atmosphere. Located in a small traditional miners cottage in Willunga, it is a very cosy environment. All I can say is, it is worth a visit if you like thai food, it is some of the best I have ever had (coming from a lover of thai!). They also do takeaway. If you like fresh and exciting food, this is a must. The flavours will leave you with great memories.
