If you can't or don't want to walk the 650m to the Island then this is the most enjoyable way to get there and enjoy the views from the upper deck. Hang on to your hat though, It can be very windy at times.

This is one of the two remaining horse drawn tramways in the world. Its a leisurely way to get out to Granite Island and back or you can walk one way if you choose. The total trip takes about an hour at a pace that is little more than walking. Discounts for senior and joint visits to the whale centre. Fun for all

I rode the Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tram for the first time as an adult this weekend! It was a lot of fun sitting with a group of friends chatting along the way, waving to the children walking on the jetty. Spent a short while on Granite Island taking photos, then took the Tram back. The staff were excellent, efficient and friendly and the horses were just beautiful!

Decided to stop at Victor Harbor to experience the tram out to Granite Island. Had a chat to the horses before they were hooked up and learned about how they operated. Got on top deck and were duly taken to the island by a lovely Clydesdale who was happy to just amble along - had the feeling the driver was somewhat surplus to requirements as the horse knew what the system was. Lovely view from the top - saw seal and dolphins - wind was a touch cool but very pleasant way to travel. At the island we had a wander around before hopping on the return leg - different horse, same speed, same impression about horse in control. We were advised that the horses could occasionally decide that it would be nicer back home so the driver was necessary to hold the keenness under control. Again a great view - this time saw the carved seal on top of a rock - had missed on way out and only saw the live seal sunning itself. All in all definitely worth it - would imagine kids would lap it up - one slight problem - nothing to do with the tram or horses - there are idiot tourists who want to stand on the tracks to take photos of the horses - a number needed to be told in no uncertain terms to get to the side immediately - fools!

Photogenic horse drawn tram to Granite Island at a leisurely pace slightly faster and less energetic than walking. Great sightseeing at a reasonable price

I travelled with my family including my 2 yr old daughter who absolutely loved the horse.

Sadly, we were on the last ride of the day so we didn't get a chance to stay on the island as we bought $10 return ticket. Though the distance is only 1.3 KMs but it can be bit difficult to walk with little babies.

My tip: Do not travel on last tram of the day, travel a few hours early so you get to enjoy the island and get back on return tram. The tram ride is totally worth.

Great experience, fun on the tram to Granite island. $10 per adult for return trip.
Should try it. The Clydesdale horses are gorgeous and I think there are 3 of them
Lots of parking nearby.
