Owner description: Take a short stroll or horse tram ride over the wooden causeway that connects the mainland at Victor Harbor to Granite Island Recreation Park. Enjoy the coastal scenery and discover the island's interesting history along the Kaiki Walk or go fishing from the jetty, or causeway (no fishing from breakwater). You may even spot a southern right whale between June and October.

“Nice walk”
Reviewed October 23, 2011

You could spend a couple of hours walking out to Granite Island and then around it. The "train" was not in operation when we were there but the walk is easy. Up and around the island is well marked and you get great views up and down the coast. Well worth the effort.

“Lovely island for a family walk- and it's free!”
Reviewed October 22, 2011

Granite island is a natural unspoilt island that you can easily walk to over a short bridge or take a horse drawn tram (tickets must be purchased for the ride). Fantastic sea and coastal views, ramble about the island, take pics, and there's a cafe over there if you want to sit down and admire the views. Great for families.

“fabulous”
Reviewed September 29, 2011

Beautiful coastal area , with sandy beaches, and walking tracks . Something for everyone . If you like remote beaches , they are near by , or quality foods.
The island with its horedrawn wagon is delightful The whales in winter , and the penguins , and seals add to the experience . Cycle and walking paths connect the villages of Goolwa , Middleton , and Port Elliot to Victor Harbor .

“Well worth the visit”
Reviewed October 14, 2010

We enjoyed a relaxed day at Granite Island, including:
* Taking the horse-drawn tram to the island.
* Visiting the penguin centre, where injured penguins and cared for. Go at one of the feedings and listen to one of the volunteers. The cost of the visit supports the work at the centre.
* Walk around the island and admire the view.
* Have a relaxed coffee or lunch at the cafe that is more reasonable than you might expect.
* Do a nighttime penguin tour to watch the penguins come ashore.

Go, do it!
