Review of Penguin Centre

Penguin Centre
Reviewed March 30, 2013 via mobile

We are so glad we paid to go in... The volunteers were so nice and informative, especially at the feeding time... Open your wallet and go in, you won't regret it...

Seeing the penguin's being fed is definitely a must! Although it's not as lovely as seeing the Penguins in the wild, there are very few penguins left on Granite Island and so this is the best way of ensuring you see some. The people running the feeding session were absolutely lovely, and happy to chat and answer all our questions. Since there were very few people, they were happy to let us stay for as long as we wanted to watch the penguins swim. Lovely visit and lovely people. And for $6 for an adult, it's a bargain!

The penguin centre was quite interesting, although I think it's more for the children. they would love it.

We spend quite a few hours almost hunting down the few oenguins keft on this Island. Apparently ten years ago it was packed with penguins, now there are only 25 penguins left!!! There was nowhere anything which said that the amount of penguins was this low. Like a best kept secret when arriving Victor Harbour. So we ended up chasing down the few incoming penguins. It was didn't feel ok. We had the feeling we were disturbing them bigtime. A group of 30 people waiting for two tiny penguins to come ashore... Wouldn't recommend it, maybe leave the penguins in oeace and focus on the helpcentre.

This is a small outfit that serves as a home to injured penguins which can't return to the wild. the staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable. i was there for the feeding which lasted about 20 minutes. you're very close to the penguins and it's fun to watch them waddle and swim. there isn't much else to see there, but the $6 admission goes towards a good cause. think of it as a donation towards conservation
