We had a great time at this hotel, nice room, good shower and good view. We saw whales from the terrace of the hotel! Nice restaurant where you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner. We recommend to stay here. It's also close to the centre and the little island.

My partner and I are regular guests to the Anchorage at Victor Harbor. The accommodation is old fashioned, comfortable, warm in winter, onsite car parking and have great views from the balcony's off the upstairs rooms. You can sit there for hours and watch ocean, boats, Granite Island and the cliffs in the distance! A great way to spend a relaxing afternoon!

As mentioned, I have stayed here a number of times to celebrate birthday's, long weekend or purely a spur of the moment weekend get away. It doesn't matter if it is sunny or cold and rainy, it is always a great spot to visit.

We usually get a room that has a shared bathroom, and they are always clean and well tended to. I have never found that I have had to wait my turn. Yet, if that is not your style, there are great rooms with ensuites.

The staff are always friendly, the check in process quick and the food/wine/atmosphere in the restaurant below is great, especially when the big old potbelly fire is cranked up and it is cold and rainy outside…. snuggly!

Only couple of issues that I have had in the past, is if it is a proper long weekend, celebrating something specific i.e. Australia day, or a Wedding Party in the function room etc… there can be a bit of noise come up from the bar area/function rooms… but we have only experienced this once…and ear plugs did the trick. Also we found in the last visit the mattress was a little on the hard side… but other than that.. we are happy guests!

Room Tip: We love room 5, 6 or 7… they are upstairs balcony rooms that overlook the beachfront / esplanade, th...

Stayed upstairs with an ensuite.
Room cold on arrival, but warmed up whilst we had dinner downstairs.
Cracker view over the bay.
Would be lovely out on the verandah for coffee on a mild weather day.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Would stay again.
Even though its a 'building with character' its kept very clean.

Suggestion: put heaters on in rooms during the day to warm it up when you know someone is coming to stay. It will make first impressions fantastic and comfortable.

My wife and I stayed in the villa earlier this week as part of our honeymoon. Despite the promise of a warm villa, we arrived to a broken 'fireplace' which had been replaced by a small space heater (we weren't advised earlier of this) which was struggling to heat a 1m radius around it, let alone the villa. Then there was the WiFi (which admittedly was free) which did not reach the villa. So to obtain warmth and WiFi, my wife and I hung out in the 'Guest Lounge' in the main building - not in the villa we had paid for. Some positives of the stay were the quick check-in/check-out and the location of the Anchorage (it is literally right across the road from the beach and 5 minutes walk to almost everything in Victor Harbour). Overall the Anchorage Villa probably isn't a bad place to stay in summer (there were air-conditioners in all rooms) but just not in winter.

Room Tip: If you get a room in the main building you are more likely to have access to the free WiFi

I stayed for one night and found the traditional style great fun. That said, the rooms get cold in the winter as the only form of heating is a freestanding electric heater. I had to have mine changed as it was faulty and the staff did this immediately. My room was not supposed to have a sea view, but it did - bonus. I loved the balcony too. Victor Harbor is small and the hotel is ideally placed for all the places of interest. I felt very safe and comfortable as a solo female traveller. Highly recommended.

We have just stayed here for 4 days, it's a heritage listed property on the sea front, a good old fashioned guest house. We had an ensuing room on the ground floor and I suggest these are perfect for older couples, there are also upstairs rooms. Our room was well furnished with a very comfortable bed and tea and coffee making facilities, The only problem was we were near a back door and there was quite a lot of noise early in the morning with staff coming and going. There is also a great cafe there as well, we dined there and really enjoyed our fare. All in all a pleasant place to stay.

Room Tip: Older people would be better in a downstairs room.

We rocked up to the Anchorage late in the afternoon. The manager on duty showed us a nice room (separate bedroom and ensuite). I had read some reviews that weren't so favourable so wasn't expecting too much. Perhaps these were from cheaper rooms. It was all quite lovely and very clean. There was some peeling paint but I thought it added to the vintage look of the hotel. We could step out onto the balcony with the beach being just across the road although it was really cold so we didn't linger out there. The room had an oil heater but when we told the manager that we were queenslanders and feeling very cold, he went downstairs and brought back another heater for us. We warmed everything up and returned it as he'd taken the office staff's heater. The restaurant and bar is lovely with a great wood fire. The food scrumptious and staff very helpful. In the morning when checking out, our evening meal wasn't on our bill so the manager estimated the cost then gave us a discount for their error. We were very impressed with our stay at Anchorage. It has a little character as opposed to the 'motor inn' type places that Victor Harbour offers.

Room Tip: If you pay for backpacker accommodation, that's what you'll get. Spend a little more for com...
