Owner description: Watch the ancient landscape of the Flinders Ranges roll past as you relax in the style of a bygone era. Built in the 1870s, this unique railway is the last remaining operating portion of the "Old Ghan" narrow-gauge line. After being abandoned in the 1950's, the Railway was revived in 1974 by the volunteers of the Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society who have progressively restored a remarkable collection of heritage locomotives and carriages. Trains operate March - November. Visit our website for timetable and bookings.

“A great steamtrain ride !”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

Running during the school holidays in the winter months only, due to fire ban reasons, the Pichi Richi Railway is a steam train ride with the whole experience. Run by a devoted group of volunteers, dressed in period costume it is not unusual to see 3 generations amongst the volunteers! The excitement builds as the train arrives at the Quorn Railway Station, an interesting place historically in itself to wander round while waiting, the train builds up it's head of steam and everyone boards. The journey is through the picturesque countryside to Woolshed Flat where everyone gets out. The volunteers offer a lovely inexpensive morning tea with cakes and biscuits to purchase. There are toilets here too. The rain turns round here ready for the journey back. Everyone seemed to enjoy the trip, from little children to grandparents. There is also a longer trip to Port Augusta and dinner trips on occassions, the website has all the information.

“Best weekend just 3hrs from Adelaide.”
Reviewed May 7, 2012

Spent the weekend in the Southern Flinders. Saw all the sights to see thanks to our Bush Camp hosts in Wilmington. All topped off with a day on the Pitchi Richi steam train. I wasnt keen but sooo glad I did. Loved it. Will be a life memory.
