“Luxurious, peaceful haven”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

Our ridge-top eco acomodation was as luxurious as I'd hoped for. What I had not expected was the privacy, peace and quiet from our hilltop eyrie. And the views! 360 degree views from the full length windows ranged from regenerating forest to wheatfields, interupted only by the passage of galahs, parrots, eagles and at dusk, kangaroos. The bedroom skylight made for great stargazing, and even the Japanese-style bath had a view! The fully equipped kitchen and easy 20 min drive to Port Lincoln across high quality red dirt roads meant cooking at the lodge was pretty inviting, although the small choice of high quality restaurants meant there were many options to eat out. Our best meal was a dozen oysters fresh from the local seafood outlet at Port Lincoln. Close to the Port Lincoln and Coffin Bay national parks, with multiple Southern Ocean beaches to choose from, we were spoilt for choice of natural environments. Our genial and highly informative hosts, Jill and Michael, could not have been more accomodating to our unexpected and urgent need to access the internet on our arrival, after which they generously celebrated our recent wedding with a bottle of champagne. We could not have felt more welcomed. A big thank-you, not just for our lovely few days, but more widely for your vision in building such a luxurious lodge in such a beautifully, peaceful place. While our few days did not come cheaply, but were well worth it.

Not cheap but worth every cent! There are two lodges (more like modern architecturally designed apartments), one on the ridge with panoramic views across bush, grazing land and the sea and the other in a wooded valley. Bothvery secluded and totally private. We stayed on the ridge for 4 wonderful days. Beautifully appointed, with massive glass windows that draw your gaze in every direction. The sunrise and the stars can be enjoyed from bed. Magic! Did not want to leave. You need a car as the property is a 20 minute drive from Port Lincoln sometimes over unsealed roads. We opted to provide our own food but a selection of local produce can be supplied. Kitchen has all mod cons including coffee maker. Binoculars supplied were in constant use to watch the kangaroos, emus and many types of birds. All this and eco sensitive as well! Fabulous!!!

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights for our honeymoon. It was everything we hoped it would be: isolated, luxurious, relaxing and rejuvenating. While not cheap, it really is excellent value for what you get. I looked at properties of a similar standard in Queensland and they were at least twice, if not 3 or 4 times, the price of Tanonga.

The big selling point for us, however, was the privacy. It was probably the most private, yet open place I have ever stayed. Amazing views (we stayed in the ridge lodge), but not another sole in site. It made our honeymoon experience truly personal.

Our hosts were friendly and helpful at all times. Our power went out on a 40+ degree (celsius) day due to the generator becoming overheated, and they had someone up to fix it in less than 20 mins (which, for the location, is pretty amazing). We also had a delicious meal awaiting us on our first night from Oysterbeds in Coffin Bay.

The only warning I would give is that this is not the fancy location to be pampered and wait on hand and foot. It is a good 20 minute drive on dirt roads into town. There is a limited selection of good eateries nearby (Dellacoline Winery was our favourite, and fantastic) and not a huge range of activities, except if fishing is your thing. But if you want comfort, privacy and natural beauty then it's perfect.
