“Would love to return sometime”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2011

We stayed here for one night last month and found both Meningie and the Lake Albert Hotel to be a real gem.

We opted for a one bedroom suite, which was a large room divided by half walls into a bedroom, living area and we had a cute little kitchen. Our friends had the room next door and theirs was minus the kitchen but had a large spa bath.
The bed was very comfy and the rooms spotlessly clean. The owner was very friendly and helpful and gave us lots of great recommendations about where to eat and provided a key so that our room interconnected with our friends, which was a real bonus.

The hotel is across the road from a beautiful lake, which provided us with the backdrop for a truly spectacular sunset. As the hotel restaurant is closed for Winter, armed with the owner's recommendation, we walked a short distance to an old cheese factory which is now a restaurant, for dinner. On arrival we found it was schnitzel night which meant only schnitzels on the menu, which I found a little offputting not being a huge schnitzel fan - however, I will have memories of that perfect schnitzel and hot vegie bar for a long time - very yummy!

I would gladly return to beautiful Meningie and the Lake Albert Motel. If you want five star luxury then it might not be for you, but if you want immaculately clean, charming, extremely comfortable accommodation with great service, you've come to the right place.

Room Tip: Our suite was on the main road so if you don't like the small amount of traffic noise, might be...

The owners are very kind and helpful people, going out of their way to help guests with all their needs. Our room had a semi -separate lounge, with large robes separating it from the bedroom area. This did make it a bit hard to see the TV in bed, but no big deal. The room was large ,the bed was very comfortable, and it was all immaculately clean. The large spa was great after driving all day. Our room was right at the front of the motel, so there was a small bit of traffic noise. Looking out our window we could see Lake Albert just across the road - it is a pretty special location. Had to book by email rather than on -line - but don't let that put you off going there. Sure, it is a bit dated to look at, but that is part of the charm of the place. We ate at the local pub down the road, also a bit dated, but which had good food and beer..

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a spa

Stayed overnight on trip from Adelaide to Penola. Typical 1970's motel featuring small room with nylon autumn toned carpet, timber veneer benchtop and plastic moulded basin in brown tiled bathroom. HOWEVER, bed was very comfortable, room immaculately clean and owners very helpful and pleasant. My major complaint would be that the outside lights are left on all night and as the curtains don't block out the light it is difficult to sleep. Would definately recommend you eat at the motel 'restaurant'. The wife of the the husband and wife owner team cooks a mean, and very large, breakfast which is amazing value. Wished we had eaten dinner there as well because other travellers vouched for the quality and value. The owners were very helpful and pleasant.
I note other travellers comments about spacious rooms. Perhaps they had booked the larger suite rather than the average room we had booked. For the extra $20 it probably would be worthwhile.
If I ever had to stay in Meningie again I would stay here.

A purpose-built motel right on the main street in Meningie, this place was clean and well maintained. Our room was a good size and spotless, though the plastic shower curtain let down an otherwise reasonable bathroom.

The owner was extremely cheerful on check-in, and clearly runs a good operation. We would happily stay here again, but doing so would be easier if the motel had internet bookings (we went through the SA Visitor Centre).

We took a driving tour from Adelaide to Melbourne in May 2008 and planned all of our hotel stays from SIngapore by searching on-line. It is a risk when you do this as the quality is frequently hard to assess since the hotel web sites are usually biased to say good things. This Motel ws fantastic and everything if not more than what it claimed to be. It was spacious, nicely decorated, warm, and had a great chef (I think the wife of the husband and wife team who were running the place). It had a large sized and very clean bathroom. The dining expreience was fantastic and best of all when we were there it was very quiet (perhaps we were the only guests that nite). Anyhow, we loved the place, the room, and our stay. I am suprised that the cost is as low as it is for such a spacious and comfortable place. The towels and toiletries were very nice and the room was full of lots of extra goodies!

This was just a one night stopover on my way to the Coorong National Park and I wish I had stayed longer. Very pleasanat owner. This may be a typical motel, but I had a good sized room, very clean and smart with a kitchen corner with fridge, toaster, coffee, etc. The motel's own retaurant serves local fish and also does good breakfasts. Accom and food very reasonable prices.
