“Big serves”
Reviewed January 15, 2013 via mobile

We went to the Elbow Room on a Saturday night and although not a big dining room, there were empty tables. The main room is a bit featureless but has a panoramic view of the surrounding vineyards. Service was good and friendly. The wine list has lots of the local wines at reasonable prices. Amongst the 8 of us we sampled most of the food on the menu. It was all very good, however the portion sizes are ridiculously large. If you like huge dishes you'll love this place if not just have an entrée and you will will be satisfied. The suckling pig, which was delicious, as a main will feed a family of four. It's not cheap but you won't need to eat again for a while.

“Quality food + service”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

Met the head chef Nigel and he looked after us magnificently. Very fine cuisine that stood out from many other places because of Nigel's flair and creativity.

“Very nice food, a bit pricey”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

We visited here yesterday for lunch and had the olives, bread and salted butter for starters and the marbled wagyu beef and pork belly with apple salad for mains. The salted butter is to die for, literally, if that was my last meal, i'd be a happy gal. The mains were nice too, I think I was the winner with the pork belly though! The wine....No sav blanc, which is disappointing - when we asked what would be a recommendation for something similar, the staff did not know...which for an expensive restaurant in an internationally acclaimed wine region, is not good! We ended up with a very sweet and fruity wine, that was not at all what we were looking for.....maybe our fault for not knowing our wines well enough.......or thiers for not knowing.... entrees start at $21, Mains are about $40 each, desserts start at $17, and sides are $8. We spent $141 for two people, with a starters to share, a bottle of wine and a mains each....so pretty pricey I think. Nice spot, grass for kids to run around, but no kids menu. There are alot of places to eat in McLaren Vale, I would say this place is upper market and not for kids/families.

“Superb food in McLaren Vale”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

We have dined at the Elbow Room three times - twice in its old digs at "The Producers" and more recently in its new location at the entry to McLaren Vale. The new venue is a bit less scenic, but the food remains superb and the wine list excellent. Overall, the cuisine is nuanced and very well presented. Service is excellent and the overall experience the best we have come across in McLaren Vale

“Awesome”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

We went to the elbow room in mclaren vale following a recommendation from a friend ... All I can say is fantastic ... Excellent service and amazing food from head chef Nigel Rich ... They have just moved into there new premises on stump hill rd as you drive into Mclaren Vale from the Victot Harbour rd . The wine list was small but unique with several boutique and international labels available ... Highly recommend the Elnow Room for a long lunch
