“All that glitters is not gold”
Reviewed April 4, 2010

We stayed in the Marlene which is a log cabin. Downstairs is one bedroom, the bathroom and a combined kitchen/dining/lounge. Upstairs is a loft bedroom. Construction is from timber with no noise isolation between floors. If you have people staying on the top floor and you sleep in the downstairs bedroom you will pretty much hear everything.

Accommodation overall was adequate but not outstanding. One bathroom is not enough for two couples bearing in mind the WC is in the same room as the bath facilities.

Cleanliness left a little to be desired. On the first morning we wanted to start with a cup of coffee but when we opened the filter tray for the dripolator it was completely mouldy as it hadn't been cleaned out after someone else had used it during a previous visit. We also found a beer bottle top under the kitchen table and two of the eating utensils weren't cleaned properly. Small things add up but seriously mouldy coffee machines must be a health hazard.

Perhaps it was just us being unaccustomed to McLaren Vale service but we didn't sense that it was a big deal for the owners who passed it off as terrible but there wasn't an overt apology forthcoming. Otherwise the hosts were generally pleasant and offered to give us tips on the best places to go, although detail wasn't readily forthcoming on certain attractions.

Apart from those issues 3 Divas is well located near the town centre and within an easy drive/ride to most McLaren Vale must sees as well as an easy drive to the beaches.

Thank you for your review of The Marlene.

The Marlene is a delightful cottage with marvellous views and is more than adequate for two couples as seen by previous reviews.

Unfortunately you failed to mention that there were 5 of you, and that we had happily reorganised the furniture in the cottage to suit your needs by removing tables and chairs. Accommodation for an extra couple was provided at late notice when all else was booked. As explained, at the time of booking, you would be cramped.

Information regarding where to obtain supplies on Good Friday when everything is closed was provided and an esky and picnic basket loaned.

The coffee machine has been thrown out and the cleaners duly advised. Apologies regarding this were given by both owners who were embarrased and surprised to find the coffee machine in such a condition.

Unfortunately you have failed to mention the good things that were done that far outweigh the unfavourable.

Great accommodation!! The cottage was perfect for two and had everything. The included breakfasts were generous (we ended up using the breakfast provisions as very late dinners after eating lunch at the various restaurants around the place) and within walking distance of the main street and several restaurants / pubs / cellar doors. Greg and Dee were perfect hosts - there when you needed a restaurant or winery recommendation but otherwise you didn't even know they were there. We have friends coming from interstate so we're already planning our next stay with 3 Divas!

The host make this place. As another person said... it was like staying with friends. They took care of us, got us into restaurants and were just so darn nice. Local advice and connections can never be underestimated. We stayed in a hotel after this place and longed to go back to a B+B like theirs. The cottage we stayed in was like a home and the breakfast full on. Not only would we return, we are planning to stay for a week next year. Only regret was we didn't stay longer and book a wine tour with them.

We loved the 3 Divas so much we sent friends there for their honeymoon last month - they came back raving about Greg and Dee's hospitality. We are definitely going back next year!
Greg's wine tour was fantastic - only places without signs out the front, all boutique, and we learnt something at each one. We were at the first one for 2 hours we got so involved, tasting straight from the barrels.
The people in the Maclaren Vale are fabulous - we were really impressed by their support of each other's businesses and community spirit.
We go to a different winery every year, for the last 7 years - and this is far and away the absolute best in terms of country side, accommodation, wines and hospitality.
Don't miss it!

We arrived the day after our wedding at 4pm where we were greeted by Greg, and shown to our room.

There was a bottle of wine waiting for us, and the air conditioner was pumping out some lovely cool air (it was hot) so it was much appreciated.

We were left to check out the place, and about 30 minutes later Dee turned up with our breakfast provisions, beautiful wood-fired bread, smoked bacon, and the chicken and pine nut sausages were to die for (and all local too).

The service was brilliant, nothing too much and they are the most friendly people.

The Marlene is a log cabin, it's cosy and comfortable, with the living area and kitchen downstairs and a loft bedroom, with magnificent views, the patio with BBQ was a great place to sit and eat, and also to try some of the days purchases.

Greg's wine tour "Wine Diva Tours" was amazing, visiting some of the smaller boutique wineries, and OMG the barrel tastings were fantastic.

This is a trip we'll remember forever and we'll definitely be back. The warmest and friendliest hosts, it was like coming home to see old friends.

Thanks Dee and Greg

Greg and Dee were such wonderful hosts. We had to change our travel plans a bunch of times due to airline issues and they were so accommodating.

When we arrrived, there was a bottle of champagne in a big ice tub. Then Greg came to welcome us and get us acquainted with the property. We were staying in the Marlene (there are 2 other properties as well), a great log cabin style home with contemporary interior, that was so comfortable. The bathroom has a shower and a soaker tub. You get big fluffy robes.

The bedroom is a loft with a lovely view of vineyards and a lot where friendly Chachi the horse roams.

There is a huge deck where you can sit outside to eat and a gas grill for cooking. We made great use of it.

The kitchen is small but fine for a short stay. Dee comes over and brings breakfast provisions: eggs, bacon, fresh bread, tomatoes, mushrooms, orange juice, and jams. There's a great indoor dining table as well.

Comfy sofas and a TV... nothing more was needed.

We made breakfast each morning and went to the local grocery and cooked up amazing dinners.

The location is perfect! 5 to 10 minutes from all the major vineyards in the McLaren Vale area. Plus, you're less than 5 minutes from a beautiful beach.

Highly, highly recommend it.
