We just spent the night at Zorros and had a lovely time. The accommodation is located at the centre of the town and the service/hospitality was excellent.

We stayed midweek and were upgraded to a 2 brdm apartment with a gas log fire and a spa which was just what we wanted on a cold winters night.

We ordered a continental breakfast of fruit, muesli, yoghurt, toast, raison bread, OJ, locally made jams and coffee which was excellent value for money and very tasty.

I'd heard so much about Zorro's Restaurant so was really looking forward to eating there. However, I have only experienced such bad service at one other restaurant previously, waiting nearly one hour for our food to come, whilst we watched diners at another table being served several courses, one after the other. When our food came, it was undercooked, the pork skewers were mainly fat rather than meat and there seemed to be an overuse of the famous Vegeta seasoning. Overall the whole meal and service was extremely disappointing, especially for the exorbitant price and we left most of our meal on the table. Maybe the new management is not managing this restaurant as well as the previous owners. Our advice, don't waste your time or money.

I cant help but laugh at these reviews before me. all have given very poor reviews, but i cant help but wonder if they were truthful.

the room we stayed in, was this room 1. now unlike these other people, i checked what the town had to offer, and this by far was the nicest room, for the price!! the other motels were horrible. but the prices seem the same. It isnt the biggest room, but they do have larger rooms which are far nicer may i say, but they are a bit dearer. the bed was great, no squeaks, the spa fit 2 people, and i'm 6 foot 2, the entertainment centre was fine, well set up, etc. I checked websites, and the person reviewing before me who said there was a balcony, he/she must have had trouble reading, because it is specifically a entirely different room. The service was great, my wife neded a hairdryer, and the lad at the desk was eager to help, and we had a great chat, very friendly.

the room was well lit, althoug the windows are small, it is well lit. it is set off the road, and the owners have used the space allocated well, and undercover parking was great, (i dont like my merc in the open). the room is also very clean, and cosy!!!

did i mention the location? right in the centre of town and everything is within walking distance. fantastic, we enjoyed it so much that we stayed another three nights! we even got the last night cheaper as well!! i cant stop raving about it, after seing these reviews and laughing at them now.

we are booked in again for september, but in one of the luxury apartments, which are beautifully set out, perfect. i just want to say, i cant understand the other reviews here, but its a great motel, and there really is nothing wrong with the place.

I'm staying there right now. Sort of. I've checked in, walked in, groaned, looked around, laughed, realised I'd made a terrible mistake, turned around, got back in my car and driven away. I'm back at home now and wondering what my next move is. I mean, it's not cheap and I've obviously done my money by booking 3 nights at $145/night as a "Hiding From Christmas" break there. It immediately felt like if I had to spend 3 days and nights in that room No. 1, I'd surely kill myself.

The website that I read, which described it before I booked, said that there would be a balcony, there isn't. As a smoker I was counting on that and as it is there is nowhere outside to sit or stand that isn't ugly carpark.

The room is woefully small and dark, there are no windows to see out of, the bed is very hard with such an extremely thin matress that my bum made immediate contact with the wood underneath. The "kitchenette" consists of a narrow bench with a small sink, kettle, toaster, ancient grotty microwave and a bar fridge not big enough to house all the food I had taken with me. There's a small TV with a cheap DVD player precariously balanced on top with all of the wires hanging out of the back in full view. This entertainment facility is balanced on a very strange, badly painted and worn wooden pedestal which is just plain freaky. There's a kind of sideboard thing in the same finish with a pair of old chairs next to it but there is no way this is big enough to sit and eat at - so there really is nowhere to sit or eat. The bathroom is scary, ugly and dark and the "2 person spa" is in fact merely a small half sized corner bath with a few jets in the side barely big enough for one person sitting upright.

The whole place is tacky, depressing and way overpriced!

Oh well, I guess I'll go back later and spend a night or 2 there since I've paid for it but I've decided that this is definately not a place for a relaxing few days away. It's a place to come to late at night, crash and then get out of as quickly as you can in the morning. Pity.

The website said a 'european style modern motel that maintains the german town feel"....... This is not true!
I had embarked upon a driving tour of South Australia and this was my most expensive motel I had booked. It was so dissappointing we laughed at the mistake we had made. Don't jump to conclusions yet. We had simply been spoilt staying at 4 star resorts for much less than what we had paid to stay at Zorros.
THE ACCOMODATION
We had stepped back in time to Lutheran europe. I feel the owners had wished to make our stay quite some penance in room number 1. The room was extremely small. A floral bed cover with dolphin blanket underneath. Squeeky cheap bed. Purple walls with blue painted pine furniture. Plastic doily's in abundance on every surface. The bathroom was overwhelming covered in black and silver mirror tiles. Despite the space issue , they had managed to squeeze a huge spa into the corner. The 2 windows were truely jailhouse size of 1.5 m x 1.5 metres each with little sunlight entering. The positive about this room i sthat we continually laughed at what we had paid to stay here and spent very little time in the room
CUSTOMER SERVICE
This was quite eerie. I rang a bell at reception. A door swung open and I entered a small space of about 750cm wide x 2 m long where a young kid stood. He simply said with no greeting or smile, " d'ya have ya booking form off the net" He looked atit, hande me a key and said 'D'ya want milk for ya tea in tha morning" whilst handing me a little carton of milk. As he dissappeared into the back of this smal space he said "ya rooms next door on the right" This again made us laugh and we pondered the odd experience thus far. The signs in the room reminded us of "The Rules" we had to abide by. Clean your own dishes, make your own bed to name a few. Yes, we truely had been "sentanced" to night in Zorros Motel
SUMMARY
Hahndorf is really a day trip destination and upon investigation their is no accomodation worthy of staying at with the great hotels of Adelaide, Barossa and Fleurieu close by. If you are "forced"to stay, make it worthwhile by dining at the German pub and experience some fantastic hearty food washed down with many german ales. Couple this with the laughing fits we enjoyed, it makes for a fun destination.
