“The Cedars - home of Hans Heysen”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

No visit to the Adelaide Hills town of Hahndorf should be without a tour of the Cedars, home of the great SA artist Hans Heysen. Guided tours are available and the guide we encountered was excellent. It is a fascinating and interesting part of the art history of this state and is well worth the visit.

“Beautiful experience”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

I always loved Australian Gum Trees, but after having seen Hans Heysens work, I have developed a much deeper love, understanding of the nature of the bush lands surrounding Verdun/Hahndorf.

“Beautiful trees”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

We enjoyed walking around the grounds and seeing both the painting and the real life view. We were impressed with the studio and the information available. It was a little disappointing but understandable that the home could not be accessed unless on a guided tour. After waiting for a 10am opening we felt we would lose too much of our day if we waited until 11am for a tour. We probably spent over an hour doing the full circuit of grounds and studio and were very satisfied with what we saw.

“Art lovers paradise”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

The Heysen Family and volunteers do a fantastic job of looking after the Cedars and showing visitors through. The guide we had was great, very knowledgeable about Sir Hans and the family and not too busy to answer all questions from our rather large group. Being able to view the original art work on the property is well worth the entrance fee. There is a separate area dedicated to Nora Heysen, who is a great artist in her own right. Don't miss the original caravan the Sir Hans built, it is in the garage on the way in. Our guide took us over there and showed us the old Ford car and the caravan/camper trailer.

“An absolute must!”
Reviewed May 5, 2013 via mobile

A superb National Trust property (sadly receives no funding) that is lovingly cared for by the Hysen family, a caretaker and volunteers. The tour was very informative particularly in regards to Mr Hysen's studio. Oh what a wonderful place for himto create his masterpieces!
