“Lovely meal, friendly service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013

We also ate at the White House on a Sunday night. I had the scallop entre and twice cooked pork belly, Hubby had the duck sausage entre and lamb shoulder for main. Our food was great. My pork was crisp for the skin and tender and delectable for the meat with a delectable crispy base. The prawns were absolutely delicious. Best I've had in a long while. I agree with the previous review that I probably had more aioli than I needed, but it wasn't a problem, just an area where a slight saving could be made.
The duck sausage was delicious also and the lamb shoulder very filling and delicious and again that yummy crispness around the edges.
Rosemary potatoes weren't available, but the shoestring fries were provided free of charge as an apology. Can't complain about that. Both the fries and side of broccoli were of generous proportions as was the meal as a whole.
We went for the Summer mango cheese cake with passionfruit jelly. The jelly must have run out because it was actually served with a citrus butter. The dessert was very nice, but I didn't think it warranted the $17.50 price tag. On the other hand the mains were probably less than I would have expected for what you got so it all balanced out. We felt our meal was good value for the price.
Hubby enjoyed a range of local beverages, a couple of locally brewed beers and some pear cider. All were great and we expect restaurants to stock the local products, so our expectations were definitely met on that score.
Our hostess indicated to us that they are currently looking at adopting a more casual approach to Sunday night extend opening to other week nights and do fine dining on Friday and Saturday nights, when there is a greater demand for that. Keep an eye on facebook and twitter for developments.
We would both be happy to dine at The White House and recommend it to friends.
Oh, and re the price TA wants below, all taxes are included in prices in Australia so not possible to give cost pp without tax.

“Potential - but needs work”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

We had a quiet enjoyable dinner at this restaurant in hahndorf on a Sunday night. Our waitress was the owner, a very pleasant chatty person who told us her vision for the restaurant was to go "upmarket". Our entrees of the scallops and zucchini flowers we enjoyed very much. We both had the pork belly and prawns for mains. the pork belly was dry, the prawns did'nt seem fresh, there was too much aioli and the dish was far too over salted. A number of items they had run out of - eg, some wines by the glass, the rosemary potatoes, and only 1 of 2 desserts was still available, and only 1 of that was available!!! Going upmarket means you don't make excuses for running out of dishes when the menu only consists of 3 entrees, 4 mains and only 2 desserts! Some work still needed here guys. The ambience of having dinner in an old historic house was pleasant, although a little cool with the 2 front doors open. The bones of the business are there, just more work is required.

“Excellent, again!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013

We attended Circa Contemporary Circus at The White House last night as part of the Fringe Festival. The circus was performed in the garden, which was the perfect setting, such a beautiful garden. The staff were friendly and attentive, and added to the relaxed atmosphere of the night. The wine and beer selection was fantastic as always (although sad there's no more Hahndorf Hills Pinot Grigio). Another great visit to The White House... we'll be back again!

“Beautiful restaurant in Adelaide”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

Situated in the German town of Hahdorf, I went here last night with my cousin Margie, her partner Roxie and Ruth. I had the pork belly with prawns which was delicious but a bit rich. The desert was sublime: mango cheesecake with passionfruit jelly. The service was attentive but a tad slow at times, but overall an excellent restaurant with beautiful food in this lovely part of South Australia.

“Sensational hills restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

My partner and I chose The White House as our wedding venue in Jan 2013, and we couldn't have been more thrilled with everything they did for us to make our day so memorable and fun! The food was delicious (so many compliments from our guests), the staff were exceptionally attentive and helpful, the garden was beautifully arranged, and there was so much generosity of time and enthusiasm to make our day special... the White House team excelled in every way. Nothing was too much to ask, and even though some staff had been working several hours before our wedding, they were still going until the small hours of the night to ensure we had a brilliant day. To Sophie and Sid (wonderfully warm and creative owners), Annabel (attentive and supportive functions coordinator) and Chris (superstar chef), and the rest of the White House team, we love you to bits and thank you from the bottom of our hearts! xx kara and paul
