On our way from Adelaide to the Great Ocean Road, we stopped in Hahndorf for lunch. It felt as we had suddenly been dropped in a Bavarian Disneyland -- everything was German, from bakeries to shops to restaurants -- slightly over the top! Despite its name, we did get Australian food at The Haus though, and it was very good. The fish was fresh. the salad was crisp, the local wine was cool, and the temperature was perfect for lunch on the terrace in the shade. Free internet, so we could catch up on our mail before eating!

This was the best food we had on our whole trip and the staff was excellent. Awesome place. We ate coconut shrimp and had the fish platter. Drank some local beer and wine.

I stopped here for lunch and found a table at the back of the restaurant. The decor is fantastic and the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The service is good and the meal was served promptly. I ordered the fish and chips. The meal was a very large serve and I couldn't eat all of it. The menu is extensive and there is a well equipped bar. They also sell great tasting coffee and an array of cakes/tarts. I'd come here again with friends but wouldn't go alone again...a little too noisy for me. Meals open till 9pm and pizzas available to 9.30pm. Great outdoor area at the front where you can 'people watch' to your hearts content!

My husband and I had dinner at The Haus a couple of weeks ago, and it was great.

The front French doors were open to let through a summer breeze (poetic, right?!) and we sat by the doors where we experienced the atmosphere of both the inside and outside dining areas. Outside is very pretty and green with comfy benches and cushions. Inside is busy, but decorated and sectioned off nicely.

The food was great. We shared the Sizzling Mexican Fajitas, which our waitress said was a good entre, but it was large enough to be our main meal! And very tasty.

Speaking of our waitress, she was brilliant. Knowledgable about the menu, friendly and helpful. The only suggestion I'd make would be to ask the waiting staff to keep casting their eye across all tables in their section so there isn't a long wait for drinks and food orders. Otherwise, no complaints!
