“What a find!”

Just had two nights here, and wish we'd booked for more. This place ticks all the boxes, and compares favourably with anything we've stayed at anywhere in the world. The creative re-cycling of an 1850s building, the quality and attention to detail in the rooms, and the friendly personal service make it feel like you're staying in a gracious country manor with old friends. Breakfast was a special treat. Will definitely visit again.

Room Tip: Only 5 rooms, so booking a must. We had the 'Island Room' with views over the river and Hin...

My husband wanted to give me a surprise birthday for my 65th and Wow what a wonderful way to celebrate. He booked the special one night deal with room, champagne, dinner, and breakfast. It was really a wonderful and memorable night. The personal attention by the owners Deb and Juliet is achieved because it is not a commercial hotel style it is much more private, quiet and interesting. We had the Quirky room and loved it as it was quirky in layout but tasteful and stylish. After drinking our Champagne in our room we went down to the small dining room and had Dinner prepared by Juliet which was light and luscious with an Asian flavour, as is the whole place which is extremely interestingly decorated in a Zen fashion. Can’t wait to get back and try another room out. That’s the challenge.

Room Tip: I think any room would be wonderful.

My wife and I recently celbrated our 10 yr wedding anniversary and we couldn't have picked a more complete and fantastic venue, from the food to the service I can't recommend the Australasian enough. A great romantic getaway.

Have just had my second stay at the Australasian - each time gets better as you really do feel as if you are coming home. The skill required to turn accommodation into such a unique and satisfying experience is not to be underestimated...these girls have achieved this in spades. From the accommodation to the cuisine, a stay at the Australasian should be at the top of everyone's to do list. I will be back - again and again and again!

We took our staff to stay at The Australasian to celebrate our 20 years in business. The rooms were simply incredible....wonderful attention to detail...each being different and unique. The 4 couples were greeted by Deb and then led to the upstairs deck where we feasted on afternoon tea and Champagne. We stayed on a Friday night and as we were the only guests we had the dining room to our selves. It was truly like a private dinner party. Juliette's 3 course dinner was outstanding and Deb did a wonderful job pouring many fabulous Fleurieu wines. After a fabulous nights sleep on remarkably comfortable beds we had a Japanese inspired breakfast on the deck looking out over the river. Our staff had a fabulous time...every thing was perfect. Extremely highly recommended. Do yourself a favour and stay here!

Room Tip: All the rooms are amazing

The blend of Victorian and Japanes architecture and interior design is a sight to behold. This has been very skillfully undertaken by Deb and Juliet and provides the guest with a sequence of visual delights. Sadly I only spent one night at The Australasian, but I have no doubt I shall return.

We have now stayed at this beautufil property 5 times - and we have thoroughly enjoyed each visit and look forward to our next stay. We have now experienced 3 of the 5 room types and have been more than satisfied with the appointments afforded to each room - no two rooms are the same. The entire property is a marriage of Australian and Far East influences (art / architecture / food & drink);- from the well-appointed rooms, to the public areas and dining room - each reflects the unique history of the building and love of all things Oriental by the owners.

On each visit we have opted to dine-in on at least one of the evenings we have stayed here and on each occassion the evening meal was superb! Service is friendly and discreet and the restaurant has a lovely ambience with many Japanese furnishings and touches, as well as a good selection of background music. The Australasian prides itself on supporting local businesses and the food and many wines are sourced from the southern Fleurieu Peninsula / Murray River region.

We spent many years celebrating Easter and Birthdays at the equally outstanding Thorn Park Manor in the Clare Valley and were saddened by the closure of that magnificent establishment! Thankfully Juliet and Deborah opened at about the same time as Thorn Park closed, and so we now spend our special occassions at The Australasian - all the while enjoying the peace and tranquility of Goolwa and its surrounds. Recommended activities include the Cockle Train to Victor Harbor (a lovely 'lunch-trip' tour - leave Goolwa in the morning, lunch in Victor and back to Goolwa in the afternoon skirting the southern beaches along the way), the Coorong river cruise including lunch (we were fortunate to see it in flood with the mouth open and the King Tide meeting the river - seals and birds everywhere) and the little 'Oscar' paddle-steamer (morning tour). Nearby is a boutique brewery and shops offering basic services.

One would be hard-pressed to find a better B&B, not only in South Australia, but Australia wide!
