All was as expected. Early December so missed the flowers but everything else made the trip very worthwhile.

“Spectacular”

Never fail to be in awe of the Flinder's Ranges and of the "Pound" in particular. An out of the way location, but well worth the effort to go there.

“Awesome”

Had a lovely hike here in March. Saw lots of roos, emus and Wallabies. Our room at Rawnsley park had a picture perfect view of the Pound.

“Wandering Wilpena”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2012

In October this year (2012), my wife and I drove for 3 days from Gosford NSW to the Flinders Ranges and stayed at the Wilpena Pound Resort (highly recommended). We had a flight around the Pound and I thoroughly recommend this as the greatest way to view the area. The Pound is 17km long and can fit 8 Uluru's as well as being 250m higher than The Rock. There are many dirt roads to wander as well as many bush walking trails. Late September / early October is the best time to visit because of the wildflowers on show and the milder temperatures. Keep a watch out for the many kangaroos and emus !!

“Big, Bold and ..... far away!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2012

For some reason we decided the Melbourne Cup Day long weekend was the perfect opportunity for our family of four (kids 11 & 14) to visit Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges. 14 hours later, we realised it was further than we thought from Melbourne but still worth the drive. We went via Mildura then across through Broken Hill on the way there and via Berri and Ouyen on the way home - pretty much the same distance both ways. We stayed at Wilpena Pound Resort in a very comfortable fixed tent (there are only two) for $75 a night - sleeps 5 and comes with fridge, kettle, lights, chairs and tables (and bedding on request for extra $). We had our own large, personal kangaroo that slept around our tent, very tame and keen on the water tap nearby. Toilet block a short walk away was clean and large. The resort has a pool - much needed as 38 degrees when we visited early November and lots of motel style accom but for your money the tent was best value. The Pound itself is best seen from one of the lookouts, we did the Wangara Lookout hike which was mostly an easy wide trail with just a short steep rocky climb at the end. Listed as taking 3 hours it was a comfortable 2 hrs for us and had good views over the pound and went past the Hills homestead. Anoher good short walk (if hot) is the Sacred Canyon walk (30 mins) and if you like cave paintings don't miss the Arkaroo Rock walk - a circuit that takes around 1 hour. The highlight was the spectacular sunset from Stocks Hill Lookout 10 mins north of resort. If going back I would allow a week form Melbourne and 4 nights at Wilpena Pound to see it all.
