The food at the restaurant was great, the units were clean and tidy and wild life was so special. We enjoyed most of the walks-16 kilometres round trip into the pound floor and up to the solar power unit. The day temperature was 40 plus, but worth the experience.

Thank you for your review. It is great to hear you enjoyed some of the many walking trails in the area. Walking is one of the best ways to truly appreciate the Flinders Ranges.

My family of four, husband and 2 kids aged 12 and 7 spent 5 nights including New Years Eve in Wilpena Pound Campground in one of the 2 eco/permanent tents. We had one of the best new years ever, being surrounded by nature and wildlife and not a firework in sight!! So peaceful and the rugged beauty of the Flinders Ranges is just magic. The permanent tent is fantastic, had a queen size bunk bed with single on top, then a double bunk so can sleep 5. Has power to tent, and supplied is a fridge and kettle. Is a very secure structure with hard floor and lots of flap windows to get the lovely afternoon breezes. Dont be put off about going in summer, just take a fan!!! and enjoy the resort facilities including fabulous pool which we all loved. We loved the walks around the Pound, and the visits from kangaroos to our tent every evening, not to mention the many birds. Also saw an echidna in the creek, and rabbits in the evening, also emus! Would highly recommend. All facilities great and clean. Will return again for sure!!

Great place, some of i can recommend overall. You can enjoy all the nature, walk around the park, drive around the big mountains, enjoy the pool at the end of the day, and the bet have the kangooros around you. Recommended. Anytime. Even now, with 46C. Good restaurant too. Several kinds of rooms since 3stars to bangolloss, better. If you like nature, come and join.

Room Tip: Take the bangalo, big room. Or the cheapest in the opposite side of the restaurant.

Two things impressed me: The friendly and helpful staff and the beauty of this resort. It is certainly a well maintained resort, situated just outside of the spectacular Wilpena Pound. An oases in the the rugged Flinders. Looking forward to my next visit.

Room Tip: Mid-summer is probably too hot, but then again the air conditioning was effective and the beer was c...

We spent a couple nights here at the height of summer. Unsurprisingly it was very hot - up to 47 or 48 degrees in the park, but it was usually a tiny bit cooker at the resort.

The location can't be beaten. It's right next to Wilpena Pound where there's a creek and a valley you can walk through to get into the pound itself. The national park HQ is here with a visitors centre, and a shop and fuel outlet. Most of the walking trails in the park leave from this place. It's a bit of a gully and there's lots of trees and shade.

Summer is the low season. There were still plenty of visitors but I doubt the resort was more than a third full. As a result only the bar was open to serve cooked meals. It was standard pub fare - a little on the pricey side but reasonable. The setting of the restaurant is lovely as it overlooks a lawn where you could almost always see a few kangaroos nibbling at the grass. I think I'd get sick of the food after more than a couple nights but the only other options are a long drive away. We went to the Woolshed at Rawnsley Park for dinner on the second night. It was about a half-hour drive but the food there was excellent.

Our room was fine and aside from a brief blackout, always air conditioned. It was hot but we went for a walk early and spent the rest of the day in and out of the car. The Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges scenic drives are not to be missed - and can be done in a good 2WD. Sunset up at Stokes Hill is also recommended. There are tours and scenic flights but we were self-guided the whole time. If you want to see the Flinders Ranges but can only go in the summer I wouldn't be out off by the heat. Only if you're keen to go on a big hike or a bush walk would I suggest you rule out Dec - Feb.

First the positives... Amazing location and friendly staff (mostly). Our son enjoyed the swimming pool and the 30 minute scenic flight was incredible.
We stayed in the 'Deluxe' Edoewie room for 3 nights (stay 3 nights pay for 2 deal) which unfortunately only separated us from a family with 2 children by a locked door. We could hear them talking, clearly heard every shout (parents & children), every cry and scream up until they finally all went to sleep at 10pm. From the other side, we could hear our neighbour snoring. We considered leaving early after the first night but ended up moving our 7 year old's bed time to fit in with our neighbours noisy schedule.
Our room really was not Deluxe... We weren't expecting a boutique hotel room but the bottom of the bath was dirty, the chopping board in the kitchen was disgusting and utensils were unclean. Housekeeping left a full bin in the kitchen so we had ants.
We ate a couple of times in the bar and apart from a burnt chicken schnitzel, the food was okay.
Would we stay at the Wilpena Pound Resort again? Certainly not in any of the rooms and in the unlikely event we did return, we'd probably try the permanent tents.

Arrived exhausted having travelled non stop for 48 hours from Manchester, England, (missed connection required an extra leg via Hong Kong), the last leg to drive a hire car from Adelaide. Receptionist was helpful checked us in efficiently and gave us advice and suggestions needed. Room reasonably commodious with all facilities clean and functioning. Half day 4wd guided tour in the morning was well worth the cost and enabled us to see geological features, fauna and flora that we would have missed on this brief visit. Interesting walk within the Pound to the Hills Homestead and beyond to a clearing made by the Hills family for wheat cultivation for a view of the Pound walls from the inside was worth the effort. Early morning 30 minute flight on the second day also an experience not to be missed. We had originally booked 20 minutes but extended on the good advice of Michael, our 4 wd guide. Food in the restaurant was simple and plentiful. The jackaroo breakfast should only be ordered by those with an enormous appetite and no worries about cholestoral.
