The tea rooms were closed when we arrived. But it's a pretty spot for a picnic, or a walk if you have the time.

An easy track leads around the lake, which is scenic, quiet and has plenty of wildlife. I'm arthritic but we managed the walk just after two pm in two hours. We should have completed it before lunch, not after!

The setting of the lake is beautiful and the gardens and tea house add to this. The cruise round the lake takes about an hour and the guide was very informative and pointed out lots of wildlife and information on the trees growing around the lake. He also gave us a lot of information on the creation of this crater lake and the history of the area. Highly recommended. The tea house is very pleasant but if you want to order lunch before the cruise at 1.30 you need to do it early as when we were there it was taking over half an hour to give an order and have it served. In fact some people got on the boat with toasted sandwiches in their hands because they didn't have time to eat in the cafe.

The 1926 cafe/restaurant on the very edge of Lake Barrine was the perfect place to have a cup of coffee and observe the lake. We went on the little boat trip round the lake and despite expecting a geriatric outing we saw a red bellied black snake at extremely close quarters as well as a huge huge ell that was making the local ducklings lives very dangerous. On the grassy verge between the lake and the cafe a 3 metre python was quietly warming itself in the sun only to be the centre of attention of a gaggle of tourists, ourselves included. Charming, relaxing, fun! Worth a visit.
