“A beautiful setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012

The Atherton Tablelands has some wonderful rainforests and crater lakes and this is set in the middle.
Peaceful and tranquil, it is a wonderful spot to idle away a few hours.
It is almost a scene from an old movie away from the bustle of modern cities - a beautiful old tea house nestling by the lake with scones and cream teas.

“An amazing place.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2012

This tea house is in an amazing area called the Atherton Tablelands. We spent a day there and the highlight was Lake Barrine, a crater lake. This tea house, on the edge of the lake, is lovely, offering a wide variety of food. Their cream teas are very well known!
The tea house also offers boat trips around the lake. Skipper was extremely knowledgeable and taught us a lot about the flora and fauna to be found around the lake. A trip well worth doing!

“A must do experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2012 via mobile

I was taken to Lake Barrine by my son and his wife who have been there many times before. We arrived at around 10.45am having been delayed by road works on the way up from Cairns. We pulled up into a fairly plain looking car park but on descending the steps to the lake and tea house I was delighted by the immaculate gardens and vista overlooking the tea house and the lake beyond. On entering the tea house it was like stepping back in time and very 1930's in appearance. We were just in time to order breakfast and coffee which when it arrived served to us on the balcony of the tea house it was a very impressive full English breakfast delicious and welcome after our drive up. Once finished we decided to walk around the lake. The walk is 5km in total and at a relatively brisk pace it took us an hour and a half to complete. The walk itself is relatively easy for most people to complete (I did it in flip flops but better walking shoes would be more comfortable!) there are opportunities to sit down at about three places to take in the views over the lake but for the most part makes it's way under cover of the trees. (not wheelchair friendly however) On arriving back at the tea house we had another drink before moving on. There is also boat trips with a guide available although we decided on the walk on this occaision. All in all it was a delightful experience which I would certainly repeat if I get the chance. Well worth a visit!

“the best cream tea anywhere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

Even though I am English and have had many cream teas... this was the best I have ever had.... fresh scones still warm from the oven... they cook them throughout the day....and really good tea... I bought some to bring home...

“Highlight of the Atherton Tableland week”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2012

If you only have time to visit one place make it the Lake Barrine Teahouse and book the boat cruise if you want to have a memorable experience. Our food was delicious and served by very friendly staff who were happy to fill us up on yummy salads and scones. The guide who took us on the boat cruise was excellent and we learnt so much about the Lake and the area. Being a Field Naturalist he was enthusiastic in his commentary and answered all our questions happily. What a great enviroment... for me it was a perfect day.
