Arrived in Winton by bus after two hour trek from Longreach. It was hot, 37 degrees and we didn't have a clue where this Tourist Park was in relation to the bus depot. Everything was booked via the internet.
Phoned Tammy and she came and picked us up. A wonderful woman oozing country hospitality.
We opened our cabin door to a friendly homely and very comfortable environment. Everything one could need. Fridge, microwave, hot plates, toaster, jug etc etc.
Bathroom airy and well appointed. Flat screen TV and a comfortable large bed and Aircon that worked efficiently.
The swimming pool looked inviting and there's a huge area for vans which I could imagined would be much sought after in the tourist season.
There were only the two of us but Tammy arranged for Tanya to drive us the 180 km to the Lark Quarry dinosaur dig. Fantastic!
Good careful driver who imparted lots of knowledge about the flora, fauna and history of the areas we were driving through.
Morning tea supplied as well as cold water.
Tanya dropped us back in town and gave us her phone number to ring for a lift back to the cabin when we had finished our town visit.
Now that's hospitality at its very best and all at a reasonable price.
Can definitely recommend this park to all travelers.

We stayed in October after the hordes of tourists had gone. We tried to imagine the caravan park full every day in July-August and decided we had certainly made the right decision to travel later. The cabin was clean, tidy, modern and comfortable. The pool was small but fine for the two of us and one other family in 42 degrees at 3 o'clock. We found the hosts very amenable to a chat about the town and their property, but then it was a quiet time. A great two days with the Age of Dinosaurs, dinners at the Tattersalls Hotel, and a visit to the Matilda Museum, with very little else to see/do. But a great experience soaking up the outback.

The campground itself is quite pleasant for this part of the country - some grassy sites, lots are gravel, but there is a pool and facilities are ok. But the staff were unnecessarily rude. If you can get past that part of it, it's fine.

We have just spent a great week at the Winton Festival. On arrival at the Matilda Country Tourist Park we were greeted by the rudest man I have ever encountered. After cooling off the husband I entered the office and was greeted by Tammy who was lovely. I later found out that the man we had first encountered was Mick, owner / manager. Amenities were average, could have done with a good cleaning and probably should have been serviced twice a day with the park chock o block. The entertainment by Mel and Suzie each night was the highlight of the stay. I hope to see the girls again at a different venue. The last performance was partly ruined by Mick abusing people and asserting his authority with fowl language. Would not stay again due to Mick.

Staff were friendly and helpful. We had a lovely shady site and only a short walk to the pool and the amenities. Te park is at the north of town and very quite. The pool is a little on the small side, but still refreshing. The big draw card is the nightly roast dinners provided by the park for a small fee and the nightly entertainment of bush poetry. Resident poets during the winter tourist season were Mel and Susie and they were great.
Would go back to Winton just to stay here and enjoy the evening entertainment.
On the down side, the water is from the artesian basin and is hot and smelt like sulpher. They said it was ok if boiled or left to sit, but we didn't risk it. Showered in it but wouldn't do any clothes washing with it.
