Winton has the reputation of being “Queensland’s friendliest town” (2009) and I daresay it is well-deserved. Almost everyone we met in town smiled at us, even though we were passing through and staying one night.
The friendly service continued at the Outback Motel, with the owner persuading me to check out one of his 6 newly-built rooms; each with ensuite bathroom and carport. These rooms looked bright and welcoming compared to the older rooms which were available for around $100. $120 later and we were using Room 16's tea-and-coffee-making facilities, munching our complimentary Arnotts.

The motel provides free wi-fi internet, although the only drawback of the newer rooms is that they are not situated near the access spot (Reception). The bed was clean and comfortable, the large screen TV had Austar, the bathroom was spotless and had a remarkably large shower – unlike what you normally find in motels.
The Outback Motel was also a short walk to what looked like the only place to order a cooked meal on a weeknight – the Tattersalls Hotel. Friendly bar staff, relatively quick service (for a country town!) and a pub manager with a penchant for frog-spotting; all made for a good night out.
I would definitely recommend the Outback Motel as a comfortable and convenient place to stay, and Winton a worthwhile town in which to stop.

Stayed at the Outback Motel for two nights. Very clean, comfortable and easy to walk into town or to the Tattersalls hotel for a meal. A pool would have been nice. Good wi-fi connectivity.

My husband, Mum & I started our "outback adventure" on the "Spirit of the Outback" train from Brisbane to Longreach (fantastic). We put the car on the train also and on arrival in Longreach, unloaded the car & drove to Winton.
We had never been Winton before & were a bit "iffy" about what seemed to be a lack of "nice" accommodation options (we only had the internet to go by), but we needn't have worried. The Outback Motel was a great place to stay, it is very clean, comfortable, in a fantastic location (possibly the best in Winton), and has free internet which was a bonus. The motel is within easy walking distance to the hub of town, a great pub with fantastic meals & atmosphere (Tattersalls) & some of Winton's (town) attractions.
Jeff, the manager was a brilliant host, always accommodating & full of enthusiasm & advice on what to do & see in this beautiful part of the world. He is also in the process of expanding and improving the motel with new accommodation options.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Outback Motel, and have no hesitation in recommending it to others.
