A lovely little cafe, food was amazing. Snuggled up by the fire was a great end to our weekend in stanthorpe. The Apple pie is a must!

“Best food on the Granite Belt”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

We'd heard of Suttons through friends and once we visited for lunch the first time we were hooked. Each time we're in Stanthorpe (3-4 times a year) we go to Suttons for lunch each day and pretty much order the same thing each time. The cottage pie is fantastic (as is everything else) and the gluten-free apple pie is something that needs to experienced to be fully appreciated.
It's not cheap, but you absolutely get what you pay for. If we want cheap go to Maccas (and get what you pay for there). Out of curiosity they put a minimum of 24 apples in each full-sized apple pie and the slices are about 10cm high so you get some idea of how big a slice actually would be. All the food is made fresh on the premises and the menu changes according seasonally.
The staff are always friendly regardless of how busy it is (and it's almost always hectic during weekend lunches). The coffee is good, the sparkling apple juice is fantastic (and the alcoholic version (take-away only) is just as good) and the range of apple juices is something to behold.
All-in-all Suttons is worth the drive to Stanthorpe on its own.

Goodness - best food on the Granite Belt – and worth the drive to Stanthorpe on its own – we’re feeling rather flushed and flattered here! Thank you so much for your lovely words! We love that you choose to come to lunch here every day when you are visiting – and yes the weekend lunches do indeed get a bit hectic (never mind the school hols!) but we appreciate that you’ve noticed that our staff are still happy and friendly regardless. If you ever want to reserve a table on those busy weekends, you are most welcome to phone ahead. Thank you again and see you soon.

“Pie leaves bad taste in the wallet”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

My husband & I went to Stanthorpe to celebrate our anniversary and had heard that a slice of apple pie from Suttons was a must do. We ordered the pie and a coffee without checking the menu. The pie was "nice" but not outstanding. It came served with a small scoop of cider ice cream. When my husband went to pay we were so shocked to get the bill!!! $15 for EACH slice of pie and ice cream! I am happy to pay for quality but I I thought the price was ridiculous. It spoilt our day and left a bad taste in our wallet! Be warned ... Maybe buy a whole apple from somewhere nice for the $30.

I’m afraid that we’re a bit confused by your feedback. The apple pie is $12.50 a slice, including a side of apple cider ice-cream and pure whipped cream. It is not $15.00. The prices are clearly listed on the menus that are on each table and on display. If you thought your bill was incorrect or you had a concern, you would have been welcome to mention this when you were paying.

You are welcome to return to our café with your bill, and we will refund you the $5.00 difference for the two slices of apple pie if there has been an error made in billing on our part. Perhaps next time it would be worth checking the prices on the menu so that you are fully informed as to the cost of what you are purchasing.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

The chicken soup was off the charts. The apple pie was very good. The staff were great - we had two young kids and the staff were very accommodating to them. Loved the shed. The apple picking was relaxing and fun. I don't agree with all these reviews about rotten apples. We're there rotten apples - yes. Were there lots of great apples - absolutely. Do these people think apples come off trees all bright and shiny like you see them in the supermarket! In any event, I wouldn't have cared if there were no apples, just walking through a beautiful orchard on a glorious day was worth it. Great food, great location, wonderful staff, what more could you ask for?

Thanks for your lovely review. We’re really thrilled you had a great time and enjoyed your visit. Christine makes heavenly winter soups from our local ingredients, glad you got to try out the chicken soup. We are always happy to have families (with our bookshelves, toy section and colouring desks) and we appreciate that you found our staff to be accommodating of your children.

Yes we do seem to get some odd comments about the rotten apples on the ground but we are glad you enjoyed your experience. People sometimes drop apples on the ground when they go apple picking (we don’t know why either) – and they rot – it’s just one of those things. And of course, as you mentioned – it is a world apart from a supermarket visit and we’re pleased you and your family enjoyed your orchard experience.

Thanks again for such an effusive review, we really appreciate it.
