“A Piece of Paradise”
Reviewed April 25, 2012

The previous reviews say it all. This B@B is absolutely fabulous. Best omlette for breakfast - have "the lot". Cassowaries visiting. And a MOST comfortable bed - slept like a baby! Pool is private (had it to myself) and the gardens lush and so green. I LOVED this place. If you want to relax, this is the place for you.

Thank you so much for your review Sandy. One of the joys of owning a B and B is that we get to meet some wonderful and kind people. Please thank Reg for the loan of his hard drive, and don't forget if you ever need cuttings, plants etc... for your home in Bingil Bay come round any time.

We were first searching for a location to stay for one night. However due to the very friendly owners, the amazing place and unbelievable breakfast we soon booked 2 additional nights. We also had the luck to see some cassowaries passing by on the property itself, as it is part of the rainforest. This was a lovely experience and we saw later on also one during our hiking. We have had a comfort, quiet, peacefull stay in the middle of nature. The owners are very dedicated and nothing is too much for them. They helped to arrange are rafting tour, gave us some excellent tips and even prepared a wonderfull breakfast when we left early in the morning. We adored the place and we definitively would go back and can recommand this to everyone! Steven and Klaartje from Belgium

Hi Klaartje and Steven - good to know that you are back safe and sound in sunny Belgium. Thank you for your kind words. The weather here in Mission Beach has been wonderful since you arrived - so thank you for that also :)
There are not very many Belgians who have seen 4 cassowaries in the wild - myabe you should put that in your cv

Love from Mission Beach

Our best hotel vaca memories are of the Licuala Lodge! We loved the secluded pretty location and the hosts couldn't be better!! Fantastic breakfast and accommodating couple to visit with too!! Wish it were closer to go back again!! So many neat things, hard to write them all!! The cassowary birds were so great to see up close!! Hubby loved the help-yourself beer (me the soda). We loved that the tour companies would just pick us up and drop us off or we were able to ride the bikes to town or take a good walk to the beach! Nice room too & worked for us really tall folks too!

Room Tip: We loved the upstairs in main bldg room.

Thanks for the review Viv - much appreciated. Always glad to know that we can be of service to tall people :)
You'll be pleased to know that a new Cassowary chick was born at the beginning of Dec 2011 and is doing fine. Sadly a sibling chick died within a week or so, but I guess that's how nature works.

We stayed for just 1 day but we were captured by the unique atmosphere.
Mick and Sue are nice persons and very dedicated to their guests.
The position of the place is cool: in the middle of the rainforest! You really feel immersed in nature! The accommodation, the breakfast, the comfortable guest lounge, the pool, everything was great! We even met a cassowary! WOW! :)

Having just returned from 8 days in FNQ, 4 of our days were spent at the Licuala Lodge. We were a group of 11, 3 couples (us with an 11 year old son) and 4 single travellers. Mick and Sue could not be more hospitable. The accommodation, breakfast and facilities (pool and guest lounge) was fantastic.

I was worried with regard to only fans no air con - I should not have worried at all, each night was cool and restful. There is a beautiful natural breeze that blows through the house. Each morning all of us had an amazing breakfast - my husband thought the black pudding was good too. But the pancakes were amazing. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for Mick and Sue and they organised some great entertainment on New Years Eve after joining us for a BBQ.

We would definitely recommend this place to anyone and we will be back very soon. Thankyou for creating a perfect start to our Queensland holiday. Barbara, Dave and Samuel

Room Tip: If travelling with Children stay in the suite, as has separate little bedroom for children but close...

We booked out this B&B for a reunion. It was perfect. Mik and Sue make you very welcome but respect your privacy, and cook great breakfasts.
Thoroughly recommend for anyone staying in this area.

We found this beautiful gem while organizing our Australia trip. We are very glad that we booked this beautiful B & B.

When we drove up to the driveway of Licuala Lodge, both my wife and I looked at each other and smiled and said, "Is this it? It's beautiful!!" Mick and Sue keep their property in pristine order. During the day, you will see Mick working away in his gardens making the property an oasis to stay at.

The property has a kitchen with microwave, toaster, cooktop for pots and pans and a BBQ which we used for our 2 nights and 3 days that we stayed there. We made ourselves some delicious dinners after going to the grocery store which is only a 5 minute drive away.

The room was very clean and was very comfortable. It included a small refrigerator to keep our groceries and chill our wine. The rooms are all elevated off the ground with the vehicles parked under them.

Mick and Sue have thought of every little detail from a candle and lighter on the table outside each room to enjoy at night, having ice cream available for a small cost (honour system) and having complimentary beer in the main fridge in the house. The breakfasts were delicious and filling, with fruit salad, cereal, toast, muffins and a small menu of hot food.

My wife and I spent nearly the entire time at the lodge laying by the pool and enjoying the beautiful property. We are glad we did, as we saw many sightings of the Cassowary. If you really want to see this very unique bird, we encourage you to lounge by the pool. You will see our encounters in the pictures we uploaded.

Thank you to Mick and Sue for your hospitality and making our stay with you memorable. We recommend this B & B to anyone wishing to stay in the beautiful town of Mission Beach.
