Sejala on Mission Beach
Reviewed July 23, 2007

Stayed in 8 different towns and accomodations on my recent Queensland trip and Mission Beach and Sejala Beach Huts were among my favorites. Mission Beach is beautiful, mellow , cool and really laid back . I definitely would have to say the same for the Sejala Beach Huts. We stayed in the hut named "Beaches" and found it to be rustic, cozy, clean and comfortable. Being steps from the beach you can go to sleep at night listening to the waves lapping upon the shore. The huts are pretty open air in the sense that there are a lot of shuttered windows that you can open to let the fresh ocean air inside BUT do keep in mind that if you're going there in winter (June/July/August) it can get really chilly at night and the huts can get cold. Sejala did provide 2 or 3 extra heavy blankets which was nice....we definitely used them. The other unique feature are the bathrooms in the huts. They are partially open to the outside but very private. The funky corrugated metal showers had great water pressure (although my boyfriend said he didn't get much hot water after i took a shower) and it was neat to be able to look at some tropical foliage and hear the birds chirping ouside while showering. I was also impressed that the hotels complimentary bath and shower products were from L'Occitane en Provence...nice touch!! Overall we really enjoyed our short time here. I could have stayed a few days longer in Mission Beach. The beach is raw and beautiful and the town is small and charming and didn't feel too touristy.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in the Sejala Beach Huts, Waves Hut in early January this year. We used Mission Beach as a base to do white water rafting at Tully and also a sky dive on Mission Beach - a must do!!

We really enjoyed the privacy and location obviously of the huts. We used the bbq facilities each evening, and had lovely romantic dinners on the verandah whilst listening to the waves break on the beach. The view from our hut was beautiful and yet it is totally secluded, nobody gawping in at you!!!!

I would say that whilst the hut was clean I got the impression it had been a while since anybody had stayed in it and it needed a fresh clean and airing perhaps. I would recommend the Sejala Beach Huts though.....

After a very rainy time all holiday we arrived late in mission beach after a nightmare coach trip through god knows where in the dark, really tired from our plane journey and exhausted as we were nearing the end of our action packed holiday.
On arrival a taxi collected us off the coach and drove us for free to the hut and we fell in love immediately. It was very dark though and the morning brought the true beauty out when we awoke early to a gloriouse sun rise over the beach.
It was deserted totally and a wonderful stroll up the beach for 5 mins took us stright into town where we could get all we needed.
Everyone we met was so friendly and I can thoroughly recommend the italian restaurant and the mission beach sky dive!!!
The last day here my boyfriend proposed and the setting could not have been more perfect. The hut itself was so practical and all you could want. Not luxurious and lavish but cosy and clean and warm.
We fully intend to return here again and again as the neighbourhood is great but we would always book these huts. Any small problems we had were dealt with and we were pandered to like vip's.

Arrived from rainy Cairns to sunny Mission Beach in March this year. What a contrast!!! My wife fell in love with the place as soon as we arrived as being on honeymoon it was exactly what we were looking for - a secluded paradise.

We arrived by bus from Cairns which actually drops you off a Wongaling Beach which is about 4km from Mission so you will have to get a cab to get here but there is a tourist information shop at the bus stop which will organise this for you.

We arrived at Sejala for a short 2 day stay not really knowing what to expect as there is not much on the internet about it but what was there is absolutley spot on. Sejala has three beach huts (Waves, Beaches and Coral) and one beach house. The three beach huts look identical. We stayed in Waves and the accommodation was superb. It was a self contained hut with bed, living area, small kitchen (no cooker but there was a BBQ on the balcony), TV, cable, DVD etc and a bathroom that had a corrugated iron shower surround. This seems weird but is actually very trendy (in my opinion). There are no owners or staff on site but if you have any problems they are only a phone call away. The first thing you will want to do is run down to the beautiful beach which has views out to Dunk island. The pristine beach is literally about 10 yards away down a path through a coconut grove. We arrived there at about 2pm and there was hardly a footprint in the sand. There is also a small pool in the complex which we did not try out but it looked very clean.

The main centre of Mission Beach containing the restaurants etc is about a 10 minute walk away either by road or up the beach. This contains a small supermarket, restaurants, bottle shop, post office etc. A word of warning however - during the low season its pretty hard to find a restaurant open later in the evening - we tried to get dinner at about 9pm one night and found it virtually impossible. We managed to beg one place to let us in.

Unfortunatley we had only scheduled 2 days to stay here but wish we had planned more though if we had Cyclone Larry might have forced us to evacuate anyway as Mission Beach was hit by the storm 2 days later. Hopefully this place did not suffer too much damage.

Overall this place is excellent and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get away from it all for a piece of your own secluded paradise.
