Horton Apartments
Reviewed June 27, 2012

We only stayed one night and it was quite cool and raining, and probably only a few guests.
First impressions were that the modern one bedroom apartment on the ground floor was quite well designed and reasonably spacious. Bedroom was directly inside entry door and our apartment was opposite the lifts and we heard everyone who got in and out of the lifts.
The fire alarm issue is ludicrous and for that reason only, "we would recommend that you should not stay here".
The building is quite new and rather than even think about blaming a guest for a false fire alarm they need to urgently fix the problem! This problem is such an issue that they have installed special buttons that you have to press if your alarm goes off while you are using the stove or toaster, or clothes dryer. Not as simple as that though - you have to press the button within 30 seconds of the alarm sounding and you have to hold it for at least 10 seconds - or face the propects of paying the Fire Services $1100.
Architects and designers should be made to spend a couple of nights in their finished products so that they can learn from their experiences. In this apartment the bathroom was aesthetically excellent - but when you had a shower (which was in the bathtub), the water bounced off you and onto the floor.
Solve the fire alarm issue and staying here would be vastly more relaxing.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the lifts!

We had a nice trip to the sunshine coast, we opted for a 2 bedroom Apartment, sadly the second bedroom had no air conditioning or even able to open the window in that room, and it was a warm week our child could not sleep in this room she slept in the lounge. the lounge was the only room with a airconditioner, Staff helped us with a fan and we purchased our own as well but the room was just too warm and stuffy. there is no fly screens on windows in the other room. Those of you wanting to stay here question the cooling of the bedrooms. sadly we saved for a long time for that some thing special, but now we are going home for a good sleep. And trust me there is nothing special about a week away where no one gets a good sleep and you can not shut the door.

Room Tip: Ask about air conditioning and comfort of the rooms EG both rooms, and fly screens on windows

We stayed here for two nights after a cancellation elsewhere. It was a very wet weekend but it did not worry us at all. The room was clean and comfortable and well equiped. We were oposite the main shopping centre and we went crazy picking up lots of bargins. Staff were friendly and happy to assist with your needs. Only small issues were air con does not reach the bedroom but it does have a ceiling fan. And we came home one night from dinner and a movie to find our phone was beeping very loudly so I tried to call reception but phone would not work so we had no choice but to unplug from wall to stop the noise. Would stay again and in fact have talked to friends about having our annual get together here as there are plenty of places to eat within walking distance.

My friends and I stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment for 3 nights. The apartment was well maintained, although a little bit smaller than I was expecting. Everything was clean and new, and there was a fairly nice view of the golf course.

In my opinion the stay was only average, based on a few small details. We were en route to the Horton at about 3:30pm when we were phoned and asked to settle the bill with a credit card so the staff could do the banking. I thought this was unprofessional, as we had paid in full through Wotif when we booked the apartment. But even if we had booked directly and only paid a deposit, this pushy approach would definitely not have created a great first impression.

That being said, when we arrived, the lady on the front desk was, in person, very friendly and welcoming.

Other things like charging 10 cents per extra sugar used in the kitchen, and other petty charges created a feeling of mean spiritedness on behalf of the Horton. I understand the need to cover your costs in business, but that should all be included in the price of the apartment. ($315 per night).

The apartment did not seem to contain enough garbage bags or dishwashing detergent, but perhaps this is because the management wanted to charge an extra 50 cents or so for these items.

I agree that with the other reviewer that the opening spiel on not setting off the fire alarm in case of incurring a $1100 charge is a bit of a severe first impression to give a paying customer. There must be a better way of communicating the house rules without seeming so extreme?

The Horton is a nice enough place in a fairly good location but I'm not sure if I'd like to stay again to be honest.

Great location, and very helpful staff checking us in outside of business hours. Room was big (we had 2 bed/bath but were only using 1 of each) and gave a nice view of the golf driving range - which despite being right outside the window didn't affect us with noise.

TV has Austar movies but for the time we were there no Free-to-air channels were available on either the main TV or the second set in the bedroom. On the second day that we were there a note was put on our door explaining that the FTA channels and the lift had both been damaged by a lightning strike. This was much appreciated as we were wondering why the TV and the lift weren't working.

For the price paid and the time we were there it was perfectly acceptable accomodation for a couple, and very well placed around Maroochydore so that even if you didn't have a car you'd be ok to get around but there were some issues that travellers should be aware of before booking.

Bed was large and comfortable but the design of the bedrooms is badly flawed. We found that despite being extremely noisy it didn't actually circulate air to the bedroom and so the room became very stuffy overnight which affected our sleep. Opening the balcony door was an option but being at the mercy of the breeze we didn't get any air coming through the room.

Secondly there is a window between the bathroom and the bedroom that lights up the entire bedroom whenever you go into the bathroom and turn the light on. Could do with a curtain to draw across the window so that one person can use the bathroom with a light on and not disturb the other person while they sleep.

Also the owners might want to clarify the rules regarding the use of the 2nd bathroom when you've only paid for one. We were obviously using the en suite to the main bedroom but had a look in the other bathroom and noticed that there was a washing machine/dryer in there. We didn't need to use them but wondered if doing so would mean 'using the second bathroom' and having an extra fee charged to our credit card.

We didn't use the kitchen but it looked to have all the requirements you'd need if you were going to cook - pretty sizeable on par with any modern one bedroom apartment. Didn't use the pool either but it looked good from a distance!

Finally there did seem to be a few seedy characters hanging around the floor we were staying on. Not sure if there are permanent residents or they were just fellow guests but the apartment two doors down from us had comings and goings at all hours and at one point left a shopping trolley outside their front door.

We must have been one of the lucky ones as we had 3 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment (lockdown as we only needed one). Apartment was very spacious and well appointed. Kitchen facilities were great and had a second TV in main bedroom.
We were on the fourth floor right along the end so away from the lift. We overlooked the golf course.
The location was great with everything close by. We also walked to Mooloolaba which didn't take too long. The pool was great and had a good bbq area.
Checking in was a Sat afternoon when noone was at the desk, but this was well set up so no problem. We found a couple of issues with the apartment which we reported the following morning and these were promply seen to.
A wonderful place and reasonably priced.

Stayed in 2bed 2bath (paid only for 1bed 1bathrooms so rooms locked off) Apt 1701 overlooking the driving range which was lovely. Apt very quiet apart form the usual banging doors why do some guests not have respect for others as we encounter this issue a lot. There is another tower over looking the lake we were only there for 1 night on business so the driving range view did us just fine. We had a corner apt with a huge balcony with hot tub don't know if we could have used it but overlooks the lake tower so not very private unless for a midnight dip. Well appointed apt large flat screen TV with austar channels in lounge smaller one in bedroom. Dining room is only drawback in this apt as it's away from the vews in a back room so if you are there for any length of time eating at the table would be a tad boring. Middle apts may have differnt layouts. Spa bath in master with the master facing the driving range. 2nd bedroom would not. Across the road is the Maroochydore Sunshine plaza SC & a 10min walk to the RSL although the courtesy bus will pick up & drop off. Melita @ reception is friendly & very accommodating. We have to be back on coast next month 4 business & will def stay here again
