Friends took us to The Piano last night for dinner. The food was excellent and some of the best Tapas we have ever had. The background jazz music wasn't to loud but loud enough to create a great atmosphere. We will definitely go back.

Visiting from interstate, my QLD friends suggested going to the Piano Bar. I knew within a few minutes of being there that I was going to love it. The ambience, the groove was
Arriving without a reservation, we could see it was a busy night and the tables were full, so agreed to wait at the bar until one became available.
Whilst waiting, we ordered from the extensive cocktail list (Espresso Martinis, which were to die for). The bar staff were experts at their craft, the restaurant staff very professional and attentive...I was so impressed that they were updating us constantly as to the progress of our wait time.
When it came to the tapas, all was delicious and well presented...a big bowl of Greek salad, souvlaki lamb with tsaziki, calamari and gnocchi.
The decor is beautiful inside and has ample heating outside, so that you can sit back and enjoy the live music. It was a Saturday night so we had jazz, funk and soul tunes. Well suited to a slightly more mature crowd. (Yes, it was probably too loud for meaningful conversation, but if you had a date night, it would be perfect.)
With such a good quality band, service, atmosphere and food, I left feeling totally impressed and wanting to do it all again ASAP.

We have been here maybe half a dozen times and haven't had cause for complaint yet. The food is very good (we have tried most things on the menu, goat parcels are a highlight) tapas can be very bad but these guys must have experience of the real thing as each item is unique and packed with flavours of the Mediterranean. The outdoor seating also feels quite European, close together and close to the road it can be noisy but for us it adds to the atmosphere. The live music we heard there hasn't been too loud, it's nice to hear someone play the piano well. It's great to have a fail safe eatery when you have visitors, this is ours.

Our group of 9 dined there on a Sunday night and there was a live jazz band playing. The band was extremely loud and you could barely hear the person next to you.

All of the tables are jammed together it makes it hard for people to get through.

The first issue began when one of the waitresses spilled a glass of wine down a friends back and just offered the napkins from our table (which weren't replaced) to dry her wet shirt up. There was no offer to clean it/dry it or any other means of making up for it and we were later told that "It was an honest mistake and there's nothing she could do about it". Maybe having more space between the tables might help?

The food came out at scattered times and some people had to wait over an hour for what they ordered. The food was bland, small in size and not worth the money. We were only asked once if anyone would like drinks and they took almost 30 minutes to come out. The pear dessert was more breadcrumb than fruit and definitely wasn't something to rave about.

When we left, there were issues with the bill and the waitress made it sound like a hassle to split the bill. She told us that "it's quite an unusual way to pay but she would do it just this once".

Overall, there was a huge lack of staff, the music was too loud, the service was terrible, the food wasn't worth the money and it tasted quite unimpressive. Unless you feel like wasting time and money, go elsewhere.

We booked a table 'away from the band' based on a previous experience, but even though we were not close to the jazz group, our table of 6 quickly became two groups of three. Even when the band took a break, the recorded music at a similar volume gave us no opportunity for conversation.

Such a pity, as the ambience and food are so good, and I would have rated it 'Very Good' but for the noise levels. To me, tapas is about sharing food, wine and conversation, and two out of three doesn't quite make it.

Friday night, and lots of young business types out for an evening's fun, I guess; us oldies just have to suck it up!
