“Truly Amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

Loved the pools and waterfalls and huge variety of plants. So many beautiful colours of flowers as spring arrives. The views of the Glasshouse Mountains is stunning. Will rival some of the great gardens in the world as time goes on. The Devonshire Tea afterwards was the best I've had! Look forward to visiting again soon and highly recommend it to everyone.

It is always so gratifying that our visitors enjoy what we offer, whether it is on a culinary level with our 'Wholemeal and Date Scones, real Maleny Dairies Cream and Milk' Devonshire Tea, or visually through the enjoyment of the beautiful Garden and views of the Glasshouse Mountains.

“Good now, stunning in future”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

Considering that most of this garden is less than seven years old, and that development continues, in a few years it will be outstanding. Rich volcanic soil, a climate friendly to both temperate and sub-tropical plants, enthusiasm and finance have combined here. Add great views and staff to the mix and it becomes a must visit to any garden enthusiast in the area.

Thank you for your wonderful review of the Gardens. I wholeheartedly agree that the owner has created an amazing garden in a very short space of time, aided by his staff and climatic conditions that are mostly favourable (when not in drought or flooded by the tail end of a cyclone). In November a further section of the gardens will be opened along with a Walk-in Bird Aviary.

“A Maleny must”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2013

We were fortunate enough to spend a morning strolling around the gardens with the children and extended family. If you are in Maleny and appreciate beautiful gardens and captivating views this should be on your list of this to do. Everyone was very helpful and there are many places to while away the day enjoying the view and marveling at the gardens. Take a picnic if you can!

“Doesn't live up to the extensive media marketing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2013

Whilst the gardens are still quite "young" and plant maturity will enhance the visual impact the real stunner of this garden is the view out to the Glass House Mountains. Even on a perfect warm pseudo Spring day in August the lawns looked tired, the foliage mostly ordinary, and a few of the water feature ponds looked stagnant and just nasty even though surrounded by a kitsch array of Budda statues. There were a couple modern stone sculptures ( for sale) that did appeal and were placed sympathetically on the grassed areas. We had the added bonus of watching a garden wedding take place on the lower terrace whilst consuming our Devonshire Tea (made with rain water I believe given the delightful taste of the tea) in one of a few Gazebos, which disappointingly have posts and rails at eye level obscuring the stunning view when you are seated at the tables. Either higher "pub" style tables and stools or clear fencing such as glass pool style panels would be more conducive to enjoying the vista. We applaud the initiative and significant financial investment taken and found the entry cost acceptable but feel the gardens do not match the carefully orchestrated publicity photos that have been used in various media articles. If he has not yet done so, I encourage the owner to visit Butchardt Gardens in Canada for ideas e.g reflection ponds
The paths are extensive and generally wide enough to walk side by side, however quite steep and the small round gravel used on some of the paths is down right dangerous as both my partner and I lost our footing on two separate occasions even though we had suitable footwear on. Certainly not recommended for unfit visitors, even though there are several seats along the walkways for recovering from the exertion of some of the steep sections.
This garden is clearly no longer just a retirement interest, given the proposed commercial expansions of Chapel, restaurant etc and as such some consideration should be given to ensuring the view from the bottom terrace back up to the house has more visual appeal.

Fabulous! Six positive comments in your extensive review …let us give our perspective on what was viewed not so positively…
‘Different strokes for different folks’ – I am well aware that we cannot please everyone every time, however if we bring enjoyment of gardens and nature, a healthy place for outings and tranquillity into most of our visitors lives, we feel a sense of achievement.
Great to hear that you loved the moderate entry fee, the stunning views, the sculptures, the Devonshire Tea prepared with rainwater and care and the extra benefit of watching a wedding.
Our lawns are in need of a drink due to no rainfall for the past six weeks, it is the dry season now.
Please feel free to bring a picnic to enjoy on one of our many shaded picnic tables, move the chairs around or sit on one of the benches in the gazebos to ensure you have uninterrupted views next time you visit, as all of our gazebos have excellent vantage points of the gardens and Glasshouse Mountains.
Construction of the Gardens was begun just five years ago, a short time frame which many visitors marvel at and have at the same time compared us favourably with the very mature and long term established Butchardt Gardens.
The smaller gravel in the Oriental Inspired Garden is in keeping with Oriental gardens in the East. Expansions occurring at the garden are well along the way with the large Aviary nearing completion. Updates will be posted on our website.
It is of note that many of our visitors express how extraordinarily fortunate they feel to be able to enjoy this beautiful private garden, acknowledging the generosity of the owner in sharing his garden with the public.
‘Word of Mouth’ is by far the best advertising for Maleny Botanic Gardens, as measured by asking and recording how our visitors found out about us. Advertorials & TV segments have been offered and are an added bonus to get the word out about our lovely Gardens and are an endorsement that they are news worthy.
For the month of August we are celebrating the Gardens ‘First Birthday’ since opening 7 days a week and we are proud of our achievements so far.
