Owner description: Maleny Dairies is a family owned business situated in the picturesque hills of Maleny. The process of milking our Guernsey gals and bottling their creamy goodness for your breakfast table is a fascinating one. On our tours ($11per person for everyone over 2)you get to see where it all happens and learn a lot about the process and the different products that we are so famous for. We have plenty of room for the children to run around so why not celebrate your child's Birthday at the farm? Give us a call today and we can discuss your needs. We also have a kiosk on the farm where you are able to purchase Cappuccino's, Milkshakes, and our famous soft-serve ice-cream which is a taste sensation! Of course if you want to bring your own picnic you are most welcome. There are also electric BBQ's for you to utilise. We are wheelchair friendly too.At Maleny Dairies we pride ourselves on having the friendliest staff that truly makes your experience with us a very happy one.

“Great day out for Children, Parents & Grandparents”
Reviewed July 11, 2014

Well done to Maleny Dairies for the taking up the challenge after the milk industry was deregulated in 2000. Devastating to many dairy farmers -
bring back the full cream milk, rich cream and good butter to our diets.
Well organised tour of a working dairy - hands on for the children - the 2.30pm tour gets to see milking the cows in action.
2nd time we have visited - always a very pleasant day out - areas to picnic and play.
Maleny a top spot.
Well done to the owners the Hopper family and all of the Sunshine Coast dairy farmers that you support - check out what is happening with the LCHF movement in Australia being led by Sarah Wilson (I Quit Sugar) and Christine Cronau (The Fat Revolution) - promoting the healthy alternative to processed foods - bring back the butter, fat, full cream milk, cream and eggs. FAT does NOT make you fat - sugar and processed foods do.

“Pros and Cons on a family trip to Maleny Dairies”
Reviewed July 5, 2014

Lets start with the cons.
It's $11 each for anyone over 2. I think they should raise that age a bit higher or alternatively offer more animal interaction for the littlies

There isn't enough animal interaction for my liking, and its a very short time the kids actually get to feed the calves and pat the big cow and its a bit higgledee piggledee with taking turns - which I can see would be an issue for a child/parent who unlike myself wasn't willing to get amongst it and ensure the child had a turn.

Pros
It's important to support our local farmers. The money for the tour felt more like a donation as opposed to "getting your moneys worth". As you didn't see first hand the cows getting milked in the sheds etc it was just a tour of the shed lol.

The products are really nice and alot more natural than other comparable products, it was nice to be able to sample them. We sampled apricot, natural and strawberry yoghurt, custard, strawberry, choc and iced coffee milk.

Would we return? No. But it has piqued our interest in seeking experiences with more animal interaction like a farm stay etc.

Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor, we always appreciate people taking the time to post a review. As you say in your review it is important to support local farmers and keep our industry sustainable. The reason we open up the farm for the public to see is because we want to educate people as to the workings of a dairy farm. We believe that if our next generation has an understanding of where their food comes from they will support the local farmers so that they can continue their legacy. At the end of the day we are a dairy farm not a theme park and cannot "milk the cows to order" On the afternoon tour one usually gets to see the cows being milked but this does not happen on the morning tour as they have already been milked. We can only feed our baby animals twice a day as their well being is paramount. we endeavour to give the viewing public a taste of farm life but not at the expense of our animals routine. We hope that you understand our position. We do believe that $11 is a reasonable price for a tour that lasts for one and a half hours and includes free taste testing. Again, we appreciate your comments and hope that you will be able to continue enjoying our products. We do have a store locator on the website so you can locate your nearest stockists. Suzie

“Over priced with very limited exposure to information / animals / factory.”
Reviewed July 4, 2014

Not only was the visit very overpriced, with children paying same as adults... We did not see anything working in the factory... A high point of the 'film' the silly fake cow sticking its nose in the cow pat ....

The most disappointing was that when it came to feeding the calves, there was only one calf with one bottle of milk for feeding with a group of 30+ persons. When we asked if we could use the second bottle of milk ( evidently the first ran out very quickly ) we were told ' just stick your hand in the calves mouth '. After paying 44$ For 1 adult with 3children, I find this lack of respect for the visitors to Maleny Dairies obscene. I actually did put my hand in the calves mouth to try and encourage my children... So I have no problem with participating. Why not a 3-4 calves? Is that too much?

The point is, if you want to charge a lot of money, you had better make an effort at ensuring a certain minimum of experience, with at least some educational benefits.

I am very sorry to say that I will definitely not be recommending this 'tour' to anyone.
